At Cactus Communications, you can work among several highly skilled copyeditors who are experts in various academic fields. We’re currently looking for Copyeditors on a work-from-home basis. This would be a contractual agreement, and renewable upon mutual consent. Work will be available regularly so that you can maintain a predictable schedule.
- Copy-edit manuscripts such that the final text is in standard scientific English: Edit academic and scientific manuscripts for grammar, punctuation, clarity, conciseness, logical flow, and overall readability, while preserving the author’s intended meaning. Ensure that the language is appropriate for a global academic audience and meets the conventions of formal scientific writing.
- Make changes to ensure that the manuscript conforms to the journal's style requirements: Apply specific journal guidelines related to structure, formatting, referencing style, abbreviations, units of measure, and other stylistic conventions. Adapt manuscripts to match house style guides or individual journal requirements, ensuring consistency throughout the text, tables, figures, and supplementary materials.
- Crosscheck document metadata such as references using software tools: Review and verify key metadata elements such as in-text citations, reference lists, author affiliations, figure/table callouts, and other bibliographic details.
- A degree (min. bachelors) in Medicine and Life Sciences
- Experience in academic editing/copyediting (mandatory)
- Familiarity in working with content related to the Indigenous population of Australia (mandatory)
- Proficiency in using MS Word, specifically, Track Changes and styling options
- Familiarity with the AMA style guide (preferred)
- Flexibility. You can work from anywhere in the mentioned countries.
