Job Description
This position does not perform hands-on maintenance, equipment operation, or physical troubleshooting. All operational execution, including equipment manipulation or state changes, is performed by designated Operations Engineering personnel.
This role is designated for CHI & NYM sites only.
Operational Coordination & Visibility (Daily)
- Maintain ownership of site operational status, including impaired equipment, active incidents, and ongoing work activities.
- Own internal and customer-facing communications cadence to ensure consistent, timely communication.
- Ensure visibility into daily site activity (e.g., vendor presence, scheduled maintenance) and confirm required notifications have been distributed.
- Review system dashboards (BMS/EPMS, monitoring platforms) to identify trends or anomalies; drive follow-up actions with responsible teams.
- Own resolution of open customer and internal service requests, ensuring progress and communication cadence.
- Lead interior and exterior building assessments (visual only) and direct Operations Engineering to execute corrective action.
Performance Monitoring & Compliance (Weekly)
- Own tracking of planned maintenance and repair completion against established schedules and standards.
- Own the PM audit program (e.g., JLL quarterly chiller PM); confirm thresholds and drive remediation when gaps are identified.
- Own work documentation quality at the site; drive correction with responsible teams.
- Review operational logs, reports, and documentation to ensure quality, accountability, and adherence to expectations.
- Drive coordination with planning, scheduling, and site leadership to execute against the annual maintenance plan.
- Own the site risk register; escalate to Chief Engineer and leadership.
Audit, Reporting & Data Integrity (Monthly)
- Own administrative audits of systems, records, and asset data to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Own inventory reconciliation in coordination with operational teams; ensure documentation reflects current state.
- Own site performance metrics and KPI narrative; surface trends, gaps, and opportunities to leadership.
- Own regulatory, environmental, and operational documentation completeness and compliance.
- Lead site inspection readiness; coordinate reviews and represent the site in findings discussions.
Governance & Documentation (Quarterly & Ongoing)
- Own oversight of operational procedures and documentation (EOPs, SOPs, MOPs); ensure accuracy, version control, and accessibility.
- Own audit readiness; organize and provide required documentation for internal and external reviews.
- Own review of site drawings, escalation processes, and supporting materials for accuracy and alignment with operational standards.
Cross-Functional Coordination & Communication
- Lead site coordination during incidents, maintenance activities, and procedural execution; own status updates to stakeholders and allow technical teams to remain focused on execution.
- Own RFC and MOP coordination with Operations Engineering and vendors, including leading MOP walks prior to execution for scheduled and project work (e.g., chiller replacement, sound wall, landscape).
- Own customer engagement cadence, including 52-week planner reviews and MBR / QBR delivery for the site.
- Represent the site in change management and review forums (e.g., CAB, TPRM).
Planning & Readiness Support
- Own seasonal readiness activities and confirm completion in accordance with approved procedures.
- Lead pre-event and holiday readiness planning through coordination and verification activities.
- Own compliance with regulatory and safety requirements; drive timely closure of any identified gaps.
- Lead alignment with internal teams (Operations, Service Delivery, EHS, vendors) for visibility and compliance.
Experience
- 7 to 10+ years of relevant experience in data center or building engineering, with demonstrated expertise at the master level.
- Proven ability to lead operational activities, manage vendor relationships, and support team development.
Required Skills
- Advanced PC skills including word processing, spreadsheet, and operational reporting tools.
- Ability to learn quickly and develop new product skills independently.
- Ability to lead multiple projects and shifting workloads in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to adjust hours as required by the business to include being onsite for extended hours during emergency situations.
- Strong organizational and coordination skills.
- High attention to detail in documentation and compliance tracking.
- Ability to synthesize operational data into actionable insights and recommendations for leadership.
- Effective communication across technical and non-technical stakeholders, including customers.
- Proactive in identifying gaps and driving follow-up actions to closure through appropriate teams.
Preferred
- Advanced working knowledge of Work Order Control procedures and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Demonstrated experience managing subcontractor and vendor contracts, scope, and performance.
- Demonstrated experience owning key performance indicators in partnership with the Assistant or Chief Engineer.
- Demonstrated experience with capacity planning and reporting at the site level.
- Demonstrated experience presenting to customers, including planner reviews and MBR / QBR.
