Job Description

Assistant High School Wrestling Coach
Location: Kalama High School
Reports to: Athletic Director
Season begin date: November 2026
Season end date: February 2027
Salary: $3,112.00 - $3,610.00 DOE
Benefits: This position is not eligible for health or retirement benefits

Job Summary: This position provides direction under the guidance of the head wrestling coach to student-athletes so that they might achieve a high level of skill as well as an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork. To value and promote the worth of each participant while effectively leading players and staff to achieve their individual and collective potential. Work is performed under the direction of the head coach, Principal and Athletic Director.

DESCRIPTION: 

  • Provides instruction to students in the rules, regulations, equipment and techniques of the sport
  • Organizes and directs individual and small group practice activities/exercises
  • Assesses students' skills, monitors students during competition and practice
  • Provides determining game strategy
  • Follows established procedures in the event of an injury
  • Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards students, officials and spectators
  • Supervises and maintains the equipment room in orderly condition and assumes responsibility for its security
  • Distributes and collects equipment, supplies and uniforms to students as directed by the head coach
  • Maintains a safe environment and facilities for student athletes at all times
  • Participates in special activities to include parent's night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies
  • Performs support tasks such as distributing and maintaining eligibility forms, emergency data cards, and other related records
  • Models non discriminatory practices in all activities
  • Must complete SafeSchools and Final Forms training prior to the beginning of the sport's season

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Per WIAA - minimum age for head coach is 21 years of age, assistant coach is 19 years of age
  • Previous Coaching experience preferred
  • Reasoning ability

  • CPR/First Aid card

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.     

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

  • The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. Work is predominantly in athletic rooms. Temperature � normal climate. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Travels to other school district buildings as required.

  • Ability to work independently and to communicate proactively
