Job Description Summary: The Assistant Softball Coach is responsible for assisting and supporting the Head Softball Coach in the implementation of the ESU softball program and fulfilling other duties as they arise or as they are assigned by the Head Coach or Director of Athletics. Specific Job Expectations: The Assistant Softball Coach is expected to be thoroughly familiar with and in compliance with all Department of Athletics, NCAA, PSAC, and sport specific governing rules, policies, and procedures, including but not limited to the following: · Responsibility for successfully completing the NCAA Division II University education modules prior to August 1 of each year; · Responsibility for assisting the Head Softball Coach in the execution and completion of the necessary forms and other related administrative work involved in the sport; · Self-reporting NCAA violations to the Head Softball Coach, Director of Athletics, and Associate AD for Compliance when the coach has actual knowledge of a violation; · Responsibility for treating the academic achievement and requirements necessary for progress toward a degree as a matter of the highest priority for the student-athlete. · Assisting the Head Softball Coach in recruiting qualified student-athletes to attend East Stroudsburg University in accordance with NCAA, PSAC, and University policies and procedures; · Assisting the Head Softball Coach with practice planning and implementation as well as game preparation and in-game coaching; · Abiding by the Code of Conduct for Coaches found in the ESU Athletics Policy and Procedures Manual; and · Other duties as assigned. The Assistant Softball Coach is responsible for conducting himself or herself in a professional manner. This includes: · Exhibiting a high level of expertise in his/her sport and seeking self-improvement by attending clinics, workshops, seminars, and other related professional development programs. · Representing the University on the highest professional level with appropriate dress, sportsmanship, etiquette, dignity, integrity, and strength of character while exhibiting ethical behavior. · Treating opposing coaches, officials, students, parents, spectators, and colleagues with appropriate respect and dignity. · Attending and participating in athletic department activities as requested; and · Demonstrating a commitment to issues of social equity and continuing to develop professionally in the area of multicultural competence. The Assistant Softball Coach adheres to deadlines and dates for the timely preparation and completion of all administrative processes, forms, and related materials, including but not limited to the following: · Submitting, in advance, his/her monthly and annual work schedule for approval by the Head Coach with a copy to the Director of Athletics; · Adhering to all departmental recruitment practices and processes, including: use of ARMS software; submission of recruiting travel documentation within 24 hours; and demonstration of commitment to recruitment of diverse student-athletes; · Adhering to all University and departmental policies and procedures for athletics finances, including: purchasing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, camp and clinics, fund-raising, and handling of receipts for deposits or credits; · Assisting the Head Softball Coach with fund-raising to enhance the softball grant-in-aid budget and compliance with University and departmental policies for all fund-raising activities; and · Completing annual written performance appraisal which is provided to the Director of Athletics. The Assistant Softball Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Softball Coach with the reservation of facilities needed; oversight for safe utilization of facilities and equipment by student-athletes; and for communication with the appropriate individuals about the condition of equipment and facilities. This includes but is not limited to the following · Assisting the Head Softball Coach with providing, in cooperation with Facilities Management, a safe environment for all practices, scrimmages, games, and events related to the softball program; · Assisting the Head Softball Coach with providing on-site supervision during all practices, scrimmages, games, and events related to the softball program; and · Assisting the Head Softball Coach in working with the equipment manager to distribute inventory, maintain, collect and store equipment and uniforms used within the softball program. The Assistant Softball Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Softball Coach with providing instruction, training, and oversight necessary for student-athletes to assure that the development of skills, techniques, and physical conditioning is sufficient to enable each student-athlete to compete safely and competently. This includes but is not limited to reporting any injuries of student-athletes to the Head Softball Coach, Director of Athletics, and the Athletic Training Staff within 24 hours of the injury. The Assistant Softball Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Softball Coach with monitoring and overseeing student-athletes and team activities that affect student-athlete eligibility and satisfaction with their overall athletic experiences. This includes but is not limited to the following: · Assisting the Head Softball Coach with team supervision when using residence halls during pre-season training camps and non-session breaks; · Assisting the Head Softball Coach with implementing and/or participating with the softball team in a variety of Community Service and Community Engagement projects; and · Assisting the Head Softball Coach with managing the activities of the softball team in a fair, consistent, honest, efficient, and financially responsible manner. The Assistant Softball Coach is responsible for timely and appropriate communication with all levels of personnel within the University and external constituencies, including but not limited to the following: · Keep the Head Coach informed of all team occurrences, whether positive or negative; · Utilizing the appropriate Department of Athletics designee for communication with specific institutional offices, including: admissions, financial aid, and residence life; and · Earning and sustaining the good will of the various publics, such as: community, student body, faculty/staff, parents, alumni and media.
