Job Summary

Job Description

You’ll work hands-on in a fast-paced Agile environment alongside engineering and DevOps teams to assess and reduce risk across our platforms. This role blends technical depth with strategic influence — ideal for someone who thrives on solving complex challenges and improving security at scale.

As a trusted advisor, you'll contribute to secure design and implementation while helping uplift security practices and shape Telstra’s overall security capability.

Our Perks & Benefits:

  • Work-life integration - we understand life happens when you're busy making other plans, so we offer flexibility around where, and when you work

  • 16 weeks paid parental leave for primary and secondary carers

  • Professional development program

  • An epic (free) Telstra mobile phone plan

  • Laptop/Device allowance renewed every 2 years

  • Purchased Annual Leave scheme

  • Discounted Telstra products and services

What You’ll Do

  • Partner with engineering and platform teams to embed security into solution design and delivery lifecycles.

  • Lead the implementation of security controls within cloud, DevOps, and network environments.

  • Provide technical consulting and design input across security and network platforms.

  • Support deployments and changes — including some flexibility for after-hours work as required.

  • Operate as a subject matter expert, working autonomously and collaboratively within an Agile team.

  • Contribute to the evaluation and integration of emerging technologies, tools, and best practices.

  • Drive the adoption of automation and AI-enabled capabilities in network security engineering, leveraging scripting, APIs, and intelligent analytics to streamline operations, enhance threat detection, and improve delivery efficiency.

About You

You’re a seasoned Security Engineer or Network Security Specialist with experience supporting enterprise-scale environments. You’re technically strong, a great communicator, and enjoy working across teams to embed secure solutions.

We’d love to see:

  • 5–8+ years of experience in network security, cloud security, or infrastructure security roles.

  • Strong experience with one or more major firewall platforms (e.g. Palo Alto, Cisco FTD, Juniper, Checkpoint).

  • Solid hands-on skills in routing & switching (e.g. OSPF, BGP, VLANs, port channels, VRFs).

  • Familiarity with cloud environments (e.g. AWS, Azure) and CI/CD or DevOps security practices.

  • Experience working in Agile environments and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams.

  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

  • Strong capability in driving automation and AI-enabled capabilities within network security engineering, leveraging scripting, APIs, and intelligent analytics to streamline operations, enhance threat detection, and improve delivery efficiency.

Nice to have (but not required):

  • Exposure to SR-MPLS or carrier-grade networking.

  • Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CCNP Security, or similar.

  • Experience with automation tools (Terraform, Ansible) or scripting for security use cases.

If this opportunity sounds like a perfect fit for you, we'd encourage you to apply!
