Environmental Data Analyst
Job Description
Tasks & Responsibilities
Data collection & management
- Collect, clean, validate, and manage environmental data from multiple internal and external sources
- Ensure data quality, consistency, and traceability in line with internal standards and regulatory requirements (e.g. CSRD, Taxonomy, ESG KPIs, GHG Protocol)
- Maintain and update databases, dashboards, and data repositories related to environmental performance
Analysis & reporting
- Analyze environmental datasets related to topics such as air and water emissions, GHG emissions, energy use, residues generation and management, resource efficiency, chemicals
- Produce quantitative analyses, indicators, and trends to support decision‑making
- Analyze progress of performance
- Benchmarking
- Prepare periodic reports for internal management, audits, and external stakeholders
- Define environmental improvement potential in line with existing and upcoming legislation
- Define, in coordination with sites, clusters and segments, individual, cluster, segment and group targets and timing
Regulatory support
- Monitor and analyse development of relevant environmental regulations and reporting frameworks (e.g. CSRD, Taxonomy, ESG KPIs, GHG Protocol)
- Assist in responding to data requests from regulators, auditors, customers, and partners
Tools & visualization
- Develop and maintain dashboards, visualisations, and automated reporting tools
- Translate complex datasets into clear insights, charts, and summaries for non‑technical audiences
Collaboration & continuous improvement
- Work closely with environmental experts, operations and IT
- Identify opportunities to improve data processes, automation, and methodologies
- Document data sources, assumptions, calculation methods, and workflows
Required Qualifications & Skills
Education
- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Data Science or a related field
Experience
- 5 years experience in similar role
- Expertise in Environment and Energy; particularly knowledge about EU environmental legislation and governance is relevant
- Knowledge of upstream steel production is highly desirable
Technical & analytical skills
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills with experience handling large and complex datasets
- Proficiency in data analysis tools such as:
- Excel (advanced functions, Power Query, pivot tables)
- SQL and/or Python / R (depending on seniority)
- BI or visualization tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau)
- Experience with environmental data
Environmental & regulatory knowledge
- Good understanding of environmental indicators, methodologies, and metrics
- Familiarity with relevant frameworks and regulations is an asset, such as:
- CSRD, Taxonomy ESG reporting
- GHG Protocol / carbon accounting
Soft skills
- Strong attention to detail and data accuracy
- Ability to interpret data and communicate results clearly in writing and presentations
- Well‑organised, able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
- Collaborative mindset and ability to work with multidisciplinary teams
Language & other requirements
- Very good written and spoken English (additional languages are an asset)
- Knowledge of French or German or Spanish is a plus
- Interest in environment, climate topics
- Ability to work with confidential and sensitive information
Optional / Nice‑to‑Have Requirements
- Experience in a corporate environment , environment consulting
- Knowledge of automation, APIs, or advanced data pipelines
- Experience supporting audits or verified reporting
