Job Goal: Provide leadership, as directed by the building principal in providing for optimum custodial services in the building, including direction of the custodial staff and a share of custodial duties. The nature of this position is that of a working supervisor. Hours of work may be varied on day shift depending on availability and competency of custodian-fireman in the building. |
Job Qualifications:
- Must hold a chief custodian certification (120 hours), be in process of obtaining it, or a commitment should be made to obtain chief custodian's certificate within 60 days.
- Must possess High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Prefer three years of successful experience as a Night-Lead custodian and/or custodian-fireman.
- Ability to read basic operating instructions, write reports and maintain written records.
- Ability to operate and maintain gas fired water heating system.
- Demonstrated computer skills, email, work processing, database is desirable.
- A record of satisfactory attendance.
- A record of a current satisfactory performance evaluation.
- Must have a valid driver's license.

Essential Functions:
- Supervise all custodians assigned to the building.
- Perform limited preventative maintenance and mechanical work as required.
- Participate in the annual evaluations of all custodians.
- Participate in the decision to hire or dismiss custodians.
- Maintain a written housecleaning and maintenance schedule.
- Make inspections to ensure that housecleaning and maintenance schedules are performed on the day and night shifts.
- Train new custodians.
- Check fire and safety equipment in the school.
- Maintain proper heating and cooling conditions in compliance with energy management standards.
- Continuously update working knowledge of systems and equipment in the building.
- Maintain records for preventative maintenance of motors, equipment, vehicles and gasoline-powered equipment.
- Maintain a running inventory of custodial supplies and submit requisitions to the building administrator.
- Assume ultimate responsibility for the building on weekends and holidays with respect to the proper operation of mechanical equipment and security of the building.
- Supervise and participate in the general cleaning of the building.
- Maintain the electrical, plumbing and heating equipment in the school plant in good operating condition.
- Maintain grounds, lawns, and play equipment in a safe and attractive condition.
- Assist in snow removal.
- Assume responsibility for the general security of the building.
- Other related duties as assigned by Facilities Specialist or designee.
