JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Director of Curriculum and Instruction the Supervisor of Secondary English and World Languages supervises classroom instruction and evaluates teacher performance, develops and supervises the implementation of a guaranteed and viable curriculum in the specific content area, directs professional learning in the assigned content area(s), and assumes overall responsibilities for related programs.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Establishes and implements instructional goals and objectives; provides leadership in planning, implementing, and evaluating curriculum and instructional programs; and seeks out and provides instructional resources and curriculum materials.
- Possesses extensive knowledge of current state and local assessments.
- Implements administrative procedures consistent with federal law, state school law, and state board of education and local school board policy.
- Performs delegated management duties related to fiscal operations, personnel, program materials and supplies, program facilities and equipment and keeps records within established guidelines for the areas(s) supervised.
- Participates in an effective program of interviewing, hiring, placing, supporting, and evaluating staff members.
- Collects and analyzes data to inform both student and program improvement.
- Promotes teacher self-improvement by encouraging participation and involvement in professional activities; plans and implements pre-service and in-service programs that meet the needs of teachers and improve their instructional abilities.
- Budgets for workshops, new programs and certain equipment needs for the subject area program.
- Assists in the development and evaluation of bid specifications for subject area equipment materials.
- Develops and maintains community partnerships that support curricular programs.
- Communicates regularly with the directors, other supervisors, assistant supervisors, building administrators and coordinators regarding the coordination and implementation of the program.
- Performs other duties as assigned associated with the effective operation of the program(s).
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Master's degree from an accredited institution.
- Must be eligible for or hold a current Advanced Professional Certificate/License from the Maryland State Department of Education with the Administrator I endorsement or the new Supervisor of Instruction, Assistant Principal, Principal endorsement.
- At least three (3) years of outstanding teaching experience.
- Specialized educational graduate study and experience in the subject area of Secondary English required.
- Building level administrative experience preferred.
- At least three (3) years of leadership experience.
- Outstanding references related to instruction and/or the subject area.

- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with children, parents, staff, community agencies and other professionals.
- Ability to manage many details and stressful situations.
- Ability to work with persons from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to provide leadership and stability for school staff for program continuity.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to lead adult groups; provide training and technical assistance to administrative, instructional, and clerical staff.
- Ability to monitor, analyze and evaluate program systems and procedures, making and coordinating appropriate changes.
- Knowledge of Windows and applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to write clearly, concisely, and descriptively.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently, work a flexible schedule (which may include evenings and weekends), and travel throughout Carroll County using personal vehicle.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Sedentary Work: Exerting minimal but not constant physical effort to perform sedentary work, typically involving some combination of balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, walking and may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (5 to 10 pounds), visual perception and discrimination, the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds, perceive and discriminate color, perceive odors, and require oral communications.
