Advanced New Product Development Graduate Engineer
Job Description
About Dyson
We innovate from first principles. We don't copy; we reinvent. At Dyson, we solve the problems others choose to ignore. Within the Advanced New Product Development (ANPD) team, we operate at the cutting edge where raw research meets market reality. We take early-stage ideas across our Home Categories—including Robotics, Environmental Care, and Floorcare (Dry & Wet)—and turn them into revolutionary consumer technologies.
About the Role
As an ANPD Graduate Engineer, you will bridge the gap between early research and delivery readiness. You will sit at the absolute zero-to-one phase of innovation, turning ambiguous concepts into functional realities. Operating in a fast-paced environment, your mission is to rapidly build, test, and validate ideas to support quick-to-market product creation, feature development, and engineering counter-proposals.
This role is about hands-on building, rapid iteration, and translating complex engineering challenges into market-leading products.
Key Responsibilities
- Rapid Prototyping & Validation: Build and evaluate Minimum Viable Products (MVPs) in rapid development sprints. To bring these early concepts to life and instantly validate their feasibility, you will frequently integrate embedded computing, hardware electronics, and practical programming into your physical prototypes where necessary.
- Product Creation: Assist in defining early product architecture and system intent for sub-category proposals before they reach Business Agreed status.
- Counter-Proposal Development: Engineer alternative technical solutions when existing technologies face maturity bottlenecks, delivery constraints, or competitive gaps.
- Technology Maturation: Develop low-to-mid-maturity technologies, managing component-level technology transfers and establishing system operating limits.
- System Integration: Define system architecture across hardware and software structures, proactively identifying and resolving integration risks.
- Technical Deliverables: Produce high-quality engineering documentation to prepare concepts for official delivery handover, including CAD models, vision specifications, safety/FMEA inputs, and validation data.
Ways of Working & Culture
- Agile Engineering: Thrive within a hybrid engineering model combining structured system engineering with lean, iterative "build-measure-learn" cycles.
- Data-Driven: Maintain a heavy bias for action, letting experimental data drive your design decisions.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate seamlessly across the business to drive concepts from ideation to reality.
- Mentorship & Growth: Grow within a team culture that prioritizes continuous learning. You will receive dedicated training and ongoing mentorship designed to develop you into a highly capable, multi-disciplinary engineer.
About You
- Background: A degree in an engineering discipline, including but not limited to Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, Robotics, Software, or Computer Engineering. We value diverse technical backgrounds and encourage graduates from all engineering fields to apply.
- Mindset: Strong engineering fundamentals paired with a natural ability to simplify complex systems.
- Execution: Hands-on experience with prototyping, CAD modeling, simulation tools, programming, or embedded systems.
- Adaptability: Comfortable navigating fast-paced, ambiguous environments with shifting priorities.
- Communication: Highly collaborative with the ability to communicate technical trade-offs across multi-disciplinary teams.
Dyson is an equal opportunity employer. We know that great minds don’t think alike, and it takes all kinds of minds to make our technology so unique. We welcome applications from all backgrounds and employment decisions are made without regard to race, colour, religion, national or ethnic origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, disability, protected veteran status or other any other dimension of diversity.
