A Day in the Life:
The IT Application Specialist is responsible for delivering application code across multiple domains, along with associated documentation, to support and enhance information technology applications.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Design, code, verify, test, document, amend, and refactor complex programs, scripts, and integration services.
Contribute to the selection of software development approaches for specific projects and apply agreed-upon standards to achieve well-engineered outcomes.
Participate in reviews of own work as well as peer reviews of colleagues’ work.
Design software components and modules using appropriate modelling techniques, following established design standards, patterns, and methodologies. Communicate multiple design views to balance stakeholder needs and ensure both functional and non-functional requirements are met.
Model, simulate, or prototype proposed software behaviour to support stakeholder approval and effective development.
Identify and resolve application issues using agreed procedures; utilize application management tools to collect performance data.
Develop test cases based on technical analysis; create traceability from requirements to test cases; produce test scripts, materials, and regression test packs. Execute and document complex test scenarios using agreed standards.
Assess, analyze, develop, document, and implement application changes based on change requests.
Use tools and techniques for release and deployment activities; maintain accurate records of activities, results, and technical work performed.
Ensure accurate completion of software documentation and end-user procedures.
Adhere to and contribute to software development standards, guidelines, best practices, and procedures.
Perform other duties as required.
Skills & Experience Requirements:
Minimum of four (4) years of related experience.
Post-secondary degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
Demonstrated application of a systems approach to problem-solving.
Knowledge of the agricultural industry and domain expertise (e.g., HR, Finance, Grains Marketing) is considered an asset.
Strong understanding of information systems, application development, databases, and system design.
Understanding of organizational business issues and data challenges.
Strong customer service orientation.
Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills (oral, written, and listening).
Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Ability to improve outcomes through data-driven decision-making, with a customer-focused mindset and awareness of global strategy.
Demonstrated collaboration, initiative, and commitment to continuous development.
Ability to solve problems proactively and manage work effectively during periods of change or challenge.
