Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for an experienced Principal Materials & Processes Engineer / Sr. Principal Materials & Processes Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals with out Vehicle Engineering organization. This role is located in Melbourne, Florida. This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below.
Key responsibilities:
Performs root cause analysis of material failures, provides effective solutions to production composite issues.
Generates test plans & reports.
Analyzes, researches, designs and develops materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems. Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop non-metallic processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes. Develops, analyzes and applies material properties and design allowables, processing processes and quality engineering specifications. Material analyses may include failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications.
May review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures.
May travel to subcontractor locations.

Basic Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications for Principal M&P Engineer are a Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with a minimum of 5 years of experience to include a background in chemistry or contamination engineering OR a Masters degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with a minimum of 3 years of experience to include a background in chemistry or contamination engineering OR PhD in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with a minimum of 1 years of experience to include a background in chemistry or contamination engineering
Basic Qualifications for Sr. Principal M&P Engineer are a Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with a minimum of 8 years of experience to include a background in chemistry or contamination engineering OR a Masters degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with a minimum of 6 years of experience to include a background in chemistry or contamination engineering OR PhD in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with a minimum of 4 years of experience to include a background in chemistry or contamination engineering
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance prior to start.
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) Clearance prior to start.
Preferred Qualifications:
BS, MS or PhD, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or similar
Experience with working in a laboratory environment with FTIR, DSC, and other analytical chemistry equipment
Experience with metal or composite fabrication and design on aircraft
Experience with repair processes for metal or composite materials used in aerospace structures
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to collaborate in a team environment
Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and/or accomplishing them simultaneously
Ability to comprehend and analyze complex problems and develop solutions
Experience with military specs and standards.
Experience interfacing with a military customer.
