VAT Manager

Description
We would be open to either a full or part-time working pattern.
Key Responsibilities
- Hands on preparation and submission of VAT returns (monthly and quarterly), including data extraction, cleansing, and manipulation from raw ERP reports.
- Management of VAT forecasts and overseeing all related VAT payments to HMRC.
- Completion of all balance sheet reconciliations for VAT, including the preparation and posting of supporting journals.
- Monitoring of the group structure, managing VAT groups, and handling registrations/deregistrations for new leavers and joiners.
- Acting as the lead point of contact for HMRC audits and enquiries.
- Assisting the Head of Tax with Senior Accounting Officer (SAO) compliance, maintaining a robust VAT control and governance framework.
- Reviewing existing processes and policies to implement strategies for improvement, data accuracy, and automation.
- Providing VAT advice and guidance on proposed business strategies, contracts, and due diligence for potential acquisitions.
- Delivering training to commercial and operational teams to ensure VAT risks are identified at the source.
- Collaborating with the Finance Transformation team as the lead for VAT reporting and tax technology improvements.
- Continuous review of UK indirect tax developments to identify opportunities for cash flow improvements, recovery, and risk mitigation.
Experience and Qualifications
- Experience in managing VAT processes for a large group, either in-house or within a professional tax advisory firm.
- Willingness to 'get into the detail' and be comfortable with the full lifecycle from initial data preparation to final submission.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is desirable but not essential.
- Experience with the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS), Domestic Reverse Charge (DRC), or Partial Exemption is desirable but not essential.
- Experience with Customs and indirect tax implications of cross border transactions is desirable but not essential.
- Professional qualification in tax or accounting (ATT, ACCA, ACA, CTA) or equivalent.
- Advanced Excel skills (Vlookups, Pivot tables, Sum If, etc) and experience managing complex data sets.
