Job Description

As a Welfare and Self-Reliance Manager, you help local leaders fulfill the Savior’s invitation to care for “the one.” By serving as a trusted advisor and resource, you strengthen leaders’ ability to identify needs, provide meaningful support, and foster lasting self-reliance. Through your efforts, individuals and families gain greater hope, resilience, and opportunities to improve their lives.

  • First point of contact. Be the local leader's first point of contact. Establish yourself as a trusted advisor and resource. Work closely with leaders to identify and understand the welfare and self-reliance challenges faced by members. Assist leaders in accessing and utilizing appropriate Church and community resources to address those needs. Share resources in a manner that builds trust, strengthens relationships, and ensures support reaches those who need it most. Follow up with leaders to assess resource utilization, evaluate effectiveness, and identify additional opportunities to support member self-reliance and well-being.
  • Members' challenges. Consult with local leaders to identify and understand members' challenges (i.e., education, finances, employment, emotional health, fast offerings, emergency preparedness) and support the leaders in addressing these challenges. 
  • Community and Church resources. Identifying, developing, and promoting community and Church resources that support members in overcoming challenges and improving self-reliance. Build and maintain strategic relationships with educational institutions, employers, nonprofit organizations, and community partners to provide leaders with resources and opportunities that help address the needs of those they serve. Oversee operations of Bishop’s Order System including financial reconciliation and reporting.
  • Welfare and self-reliance principles. Provide orientation to new leaders on welfare and self-reliance matters. Strengthen local leaders' understanding and application of welfare and self-reliance principles through frequent conversations, events, workshops, or gatherings (e.g. FSY, YSA). 
  • Area and general priorities and programs. Help local leaders implement area and general priorities and programs related to welfare and self-reliance. For example: 
    • Return Missionary (RM) Playbook: Work closely with local leaders to mentor and help returning missionaries develop meaningful life plans, find employment and enroll in educational programs. 
    • Facilitate members in the Perpetual Education Fund and Benson Scholarship application process.
  • Emergency response and humanitarian efforts. Assist with emergency response and humanitarian efforts (including stake-led humanitarian projects, member-focused projects) as needed.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Preferred 5–7 years of relevant professional experience. Exceptional candidates with less experience but strong potential may also be considered.
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English and Thai.
  • Demonstrated empathy and the ability to understand and respond effectively to the challenges faced by individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Intellectually curious with an innovative mindset; enjoys identifying problems, developing solutions, and driving continuous improvement.
  • Proven ability to train, coach, and mentor individuals and small groups.
  • Experience building and maintaining strong relationships with leaders from educational institutions, employers, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, or other community organizations.
  • Mature understanding of self-reliance principles and experience helping individuals or communities strengthen their self-reliance.
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Willingness and ability to travel throughout Thailand and work effectively in a variety of settings outside a traditional office environment.
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet ambitious deadlines, and deliver high-quality results with a sense of urgency.
  • Strong customer-service orientation and commitment to serving others.
  • Passion for helping individuals and communities improve their self-reliance and well-being.
