What’s the role

As Principal Enterprise Architect for Global Lubricants, Customer Operations, Low Carbon Solutions and CRM, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the digital backbone of Shell’s Downstream Customer & Renewables business. This is a senior leadership position within the Downstream & Renewables Architecture Leadership Team, where you will define and drive enterprise-wide architecture strategy across multiple critical domains. You’ll ensure our technology landscape is integrated, scalable and future-ready - enabling business growth, enhancing customer experience, and accelerating the energy transition.

What you’ll be doing

  • Shape strategy and set direction
Define long-term enterprise architecture strategies aligned to Shell’s overall business and technology vision, helping steer the direction of major transformation initiatives.

  • Own the architecture for key business domains
Lead architecture across Global Lubricants, Customer Operations, Low Carbon Solutions and CRM, identifying opportunities to evolve, simplify and modernise the IT landscape.

  • Define and deliver target architectures and roadmaps
Establish multi-year target states and architecture roadmaps, ensuring alignment with enterprise strategy and long-term business outcomes.

  • Drive high-quality design and engineering alignment
Lead architecture design using Shell principles, promoting reuse, composability and adherence to global standards across platforms and solutions.

  • Ensure strong data, integration and platform architecture
Champion robust data models, integration patterns and platform strategies aligned with enterprise governance and best practices.

  • Provide leadership across architecture communities
Lead and develop a team of Lead Architects, influencing broader solution architecture teams and building strong architectural capability across the organisation.

  • Tackle complex, high-impact challenges
Diagnose and resolve complex, cross-domain problems, applying industry-leading practices and innovative approaches to simplify and enhance the IT landscape.

  • Influence senior stakeholders and governance decisions
Partner with senior business and technology leaders to shape demand, guide investment decisions and represent architecture in key governance forums.

  • Provide oversight on major programmes
Guide programme and project architecture to ensure alignment with enterprise direction, quality standards and long-term strategic goals.

What you bring

  • Proven enterprise architecture leadership
Deep experience working across multiple business domains, shaping and delivering enterprise architecture at scale.

  • Strong technology depth in CRM and digital platforms
Hands-on knowledge of platforms such as Salesforce and/or Dynamics, alongside expertise in integration, data architecture and cloud technologies.

  • Business domain understanding
Experience across areas such as customer operations, commercial platforms, or energy/value chains (e.g. lubricants or low carbon solutions) is highly desirable.

  • Strategic influence and stakeholder engagement
A track record of influencing senior stakeholders and operating effectively in complex, multi-portfolio environments.

  • Exceptional problem solving and leadership capability
Strong strategic thinking, the ability to navigate ambiguity and a reputation for delivering high-impact outcomes.

  • People leadership and capability building
A passion for coaching and developing architecture talent, acting as a role model for architecture excellence.

Shell in The United Kingdom

Shell UK remains one of the North Sea’s biggest producers, supplying around 10% of the UK’s total oil and gas needs. But perhaps the most recognisable face of Shell in the UK is our network of over 1,000 Shell-branded service stations.

In the years ahead, as the UK looks to strengthen energy security and deliver its 2050 net-zero goal, Shell UK aims to play a crucial role. We aim to be a major investor in the UK energy system by helping our customers decarbonise with a focus on transport and industry.

Shell is a vital contributor to the UK, supporting energy security, jobs and economic value. We provide energy to fuel homes, hospitals, schools, vehicles, machinery and factories. Our history here dates back over 125 years. A UK-headquartered global energy leader, and leading FTSE multinational, we are active across the country’s energy system.
