
Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) Technician
Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and safety-focused Electrical and Instrumentation Technician (E&I Tech) to join our team at a high-volume chemical and fuels storage and distribution terminal. The successful candidate will perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and calibration of electrical systems, instrumentation, and control systems critical to safe, reliable, and efficient terminal operations. This role operates in a regulated, hazardous environment involving flammable and combustible liquids, requiring strict adherence to safety protocols, environmental regulations, and industry standards (e.g., OSHA, EPA, API, NFPA).
What You Will Do
- Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot process instrumentation such as load controllers, pressure, temperature, level, and flow transmitters, and control valves.
- Perform loop checks, functional testing, and programming of PLCs, and other automation platforms.
- Support terminal automation systems including tank gauging, loading/unloading controls, vapor recovery, and overfill protection systems.
- Conduct preventive maintenance per established schedules and CMMS work orders.
- Diagnose and repair issues with variable frequency drives (VFDs), uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), and emergency shutdown systems.
- Participate in root cause analysis for equipment failures and implement corrective actions to improve reliability.
- Maintain accurate documentation including calibration records, maintenance logs, and compliance reports.
- Work closely with operations, Kinder Morgan SCADA group, engineering, and contractors to support projects, turnarounds, and new installations.
- Comply with all safety, health, and environmental policies, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), hot work permits, confined space entry, and hazardous area classifications (Class I, Div 1/2).
- Participate in safety meetings, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Respond to emergency call-outs and provide after-hours support as needed.
What You Need
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Associate degree or technical certification in Electrical Technology, Instrumentation, or equivalent work experience.
- Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of E&I experience in an industrial setting, preferably in chemical, petroleum, refining, or terminal operations.
- Certifications/Licenses: Valid Driver’s License, TWIC required or ability to obtain, Electrical Journeyman preferred, ISA CCST preferred.
- Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, PLCs, schematics, P&IDs, etc.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to work in hazardous environments, lift 50+ lbs, etc. Ability to work at heights.
