Job Description

What We Are Looking For

The Operator 8 role is responsible for supporting the safe, efficient operation and maintenance of liquid petroleum product assets. This includes working with storage tanks, pipelines, truck loading/offloading systems, pumps, valves, meters, and related equipment. The position ensures reliable product movement, proper storage, and overall asset integrity while maintaining strict adherence to safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.


What You Will Do

Operations & Product Handling

  • Accept pipeline deliveries and direct products into appropriate storage tanks using automated systems and manual valve operations
  • Monitor inventory through computer systems and manual tank gauging and sampling
  • Handle and test petroleum products
  • Load and assist with unloading trucks
  • Start, stop, and operate pumps within defined parameters
  • Ensure efficient and cost-effective performance of pumps and associated equipment

Maintenance & Equipment Care

  • Perform preventive and routine maintenance
  • Diagnose and repair pumps, valves, seals, and instruments
  • Install, repair, and maintain pipelines, valves, corrosion systems, and measurement equipment
  • Maintain facility infrastructure (excavation, coating, painting, weed control, etc.)
  • Operate and maintain equipment such as tractors, vehicles, and test tools

Coordination & Oversight

  • Coordinate product deliveries with customers, drivers, and third parties
  • Oversee and inspect third-party construction and maintenance activities
  • Train and guide employees, contractors, and visitors
  • Represent the company in interactions with landowners, agencies, and public officials

Emergency Response & Safety

  • Respond to call-outs for troubleshooting and maintenance
  • Act as a first responder during spills and emergencies
  • Identify, report, and correct safety and environmental issues
  • Participate in and support safety programs and initiatives

Compliance & Documentation

  • Perform regulatory compliance activities (DOT, EPA, state agencies, etc.)
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records
  • Follow company procedures, standards, and tariff requirements
  • Contribute to O&M procedures, project scopes, and work plans

What You Need

Education & Certifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
  • Ability to obtain required certifications and site-specific training
  • May be required to obtain a TWIC card

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic computer skills (email, recordkeeping, operating control systems)
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and complete work with minimal supervision
  • Customer-focused mindset
  • Ability to work effectively with teams, customers, and stakeholders
  • Willingness to mentor others and follow direction

Technical & Physical Abilities

  • Ability to operate motor-controlled valves and related systems
  • Familiarity with hand tools and basic maintenance tasks
  • Ability to work in extreme weather and physically demanding conditions
  • Capable of climbing structures, entering confined spaces, and lifting up to 50 lbs

Work Requirements

  • Availability for call-outs, emergencies, overtime, and after-hours work
  • Must pass drug screening and background check
  • Ability to inspect third-party construction and oversee work activities

Preferred Qualifications (Not Required)

  • Experience reading blueprints and P&IDs
  • Knowledge of petroleum product handling and pressurized systems
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing pumps and related equipment
