This position is not fully remote and will require up to 2 days a week in the office.

Purpose
This position provides senior technical engineering support to design, build, operate, secure, and improve the university’s enterprise and departmental networks. The Enterprise Network Engineer III partners with campus customers and internal teams to deliver reliable, scalable, and resilient network services, provides advanced troubleshooting and escalation support, and contributes to network standards, lifecycle planning, and continuous operational improvement.
Responsibilities
Enterprise network and telecom engineering:
- Independently plan, design, implement, and maintain enterprise network and telecom systems to meet university performance objectives and service level expectations.
- Develop network solutions for enterprise and departmental environments, including routing, switching, and segmentation with a focus on resiliency, customer edge services, and related infrastructure.
- Work with Enterprise Technology and unit representatives to anticipate network, telecom, security, and isolation needs for classrooms, research labs, auxiliary venues, and other campus environments.
- Plan, test, deploy, and document new services, upgrades, and infrastructure changes so they are supportable in production.
Escalation support, change control risk assessment, and on-call response:
- Provide escalation support for complex network designs, outages, service degradation, and advanced troubleshooting issues.
- Evaluate technical risk, change impact, and non-standard customer requirements before implementation.
- Participate in after-hours maintenance, rotational on-call response, emergency restoration, and incident coordination.
- Driving university-owned vehicles to job sites is required for this position. Maintain acceptable driver rating as established in Policy UTS157.
Technology evaluation, automation, and pilot deployment:
- Evaluate new network and telecom technologies and assess their fit for enterprise, departmental, and customer-facing environments.
- Conduct proof of concept implementations, define operational run books, and lead pilot deployments for new services or platforms.
- Collaborate with the extended network team to support automation of infrastructure deployment, fault detection, standardized operations, and lifecycle management.
Operational standards, lifecycle management, documentation, and mentoring:
- Maintain technical documentation, network standards, telecom standards, and operational procedures for enterprise services.
- Contribute to architecture review, standards development, lifecycle planning, and continuous improvement of network operations.
- Share technical knowledge with junior engineers on implementation practices, troubleshooting methods, operational procedures, and support expectations.
Perform other related functions as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- U.S. Citizen, resident, or officially recognized asylee - Applicant selected will be subject to government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position.
- Extensive experience designing, operating, and troubleshooting enterprise networks.
- Ability to provide advanced technical support for network operations, customer-facing services, and incident response.
- Understanding of Ethernet cabling standards and color codes.
Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
- 8 or more years of experience designing and operating enterprise networks.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience with Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless platforms, including IOS, IOS-XE, NX-OS, and ASA.
- Large-scale network operations experience and experience designing enterprise network architectures.
- Experience with security operations, compliance-aligned network design, MPLS VRF/L2VPN, NAC or IBNS, and software-defined networking concepts.
- Higher education experience and experience mentoring network engineers.
Driving Required
This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three-year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. The driving record will be evaluated to determine eligibility to drive a university owned vehicle.
Salary Range
$110,000 + depending on qualifications

- Occasional driving of a University vehicle.
Work Shift
Monday – Friday flexible between 7am-6pm, Occasional nights/weekends maybe required
