POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Department Manager, the MRI Technologist Assistant plays a key role in supporting the interprofessional imaging team and ensuring the smooth operation of the MRI unit. The Assistant provides direct support to MRI Technologists by preparing patients and families for procedures, performing preliminary screening, facilitating patient flow and transport, and maintaining a clean, safe, and well-stocked environment. The Assistant enhances workflow efficiency, contributes to patient safety and comfort, and supports high-quality, patient-centered imaging services.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Welcome patients and families upon arrival and provide orientation to the MRI department.
  • Explain procedure expectations and preparation requirements in clear, supportive language.
  • Assist patients with removing personal items, changing attire, and completing pre-procedure steps.
  • Provide comfort, reassurance, and non-clinical support to reduce patient and family anxiety.
  • Clean, prepare, and reset MRI scan rooms between patients following IPAC and departmental procedures.
  • Ensure MRI rooms are equipped and organized prior to each procedure.
  • Move coils, positioning devices, and other equipment as required.
  • Maintain a clean, safe environment that supports efficient workflow and patient safety.
  • Conduct preliminary MRI safety screening to identify potential concerns, contraindications, or patient needs, escalating as appropriate to MRI Technologists.
  • Organize and support patient transport, including assisting with physical transfers, mobility needs, and safe positioning on the scanner table.
  • Collaborate with the MRI specialty technologist and senior technologists to ensure smooth daily operations.
  • Follow MRI safety standards and department protocols at all times.
  • Restocking and organizing supplies.
  • Restock and organize supplies, linens, and scanning-related materials in all MRI areas.
  • Maintain an orderly stock of scanning documents and requisitions.
  • Monitor supply levels and communicate replenishment needs proactively.
  • Assist with scanning and uploading documents into imaging software platforms.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) (Essential)
  • Secondary School Diploma (Essential)
  • First Aid and CPR Certification (Essential)
  • Degree or Diploma in Health Sciences or a related field (Preferred)
  • 1 year general work experience (Essential)
  • 1 years’ experience in customer service (Preferred)
  • 1 years’ experience in medical imaging (Preferred)
  • 1 years’ experience in a pediatric setting (Preferred)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to support patient- and family-centered care (Essential)
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with the interprofessional clinical team (Essential)
  • Commitment to continuous learning and development in a specialized environment (Essential)
  • Computer literacy and ability to work with imaging-related software (Essential)
  • Strong time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment (Essential)
  • Ability to remain calm, accurate, and professional under stressful conditions (Essential)

Effective March 29, 2021, CHEO will conduct a more comprehensive pre-screening and evaluation process.  This process may include more varied and multidimensional testing such as a written test, practical exam, or other assessment. All candidates who meet the essential and preferred qualifications may be tested.
 

Bilingualism (French/English) will be validated by a language proficiency assessment conducted by a third party provider. Candidates will be required to meet the minimum linguistic profile prior to the date of hire.
