JOIN CORNERSTONE SYSTEMS AS DIRECTOR OF SALES

You probably didn’t think about transportation today.

But you experienced it.

The groceries sitting in your refrigerator. The package that showed up on your doorstep.

Products moving from one place to another quietly keep our country running. Most people never think about it until something breaks. A shipment runs late. Inventory doesn't arrive. Timelines slip. Customers feel it immediately.

Behind every shipment is complexity. Problem solving. Relationships. People making sure products get where they need to go—efficiently, strategically, on time, and with a level of service customers remember.

That is what Cornerstone Systems has been doing since 1997.

Cornerstone is a full-service transportation and logistics provider supporting full truckload, intermodal, cross-border freight, and customized logistics solutions.

But ultimately?

We believe transportation is a people business.

That is why this role is bigger than managing a sales organization.

You will help build the people who will someday carry our company forward and strengthen the systems that support them.

That is what this role touches. This is legacy work.

And if you believe in that premise, this is where you come in.

WHAT YOUR DAYS WILL ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE →

You will report directly to CEO Tim Clay and step into a role that carries both responsibility and opportunity. You will inherit an existing team of approximately 10 salespeople—some experienced, some established in their ways, and all critical to Cornerstone’s future.

We are investing in strengthening how sales operates—process, technology, pipeline generation, accountability, and alignment across departments. But one of the greatest opportunities sitting in front of this leader is talent.

Cornerstone wants to intentionally build future sales talent—not simply hope it appears. This leader will help create the roadmap by identifying college graduates and professionals who may know little about transportation today but possess the curiosity, coachability, work ethic, and drive to become exceptional sales professionals tomorrow. Cornerstone believes in building talent for the long term—and you will help shape how that future development engine operates.

You will help create repeatable development rhythms that elevate both junior and senior talent. Some members of the current team bring years of experience and long-standing customer relationships. Others will require deeper investment and development. Your ability to earn trust, create buy-in, and help people continue growing will matter.

Coaching here is not corrective action. It is leadership. Great leaders elevate everyone—not just people who are struggling.

You will partner closely with marketing to strengthen lead generation quality and help create stronger alignment between sales reality and marketing execution.

You will help improve CRM discipline while evaluating opportunities to strengthen technology and modernize how the organization supports sellers.

You will help create clarity around what constitutes a true opportunity while building stronger consistency around pipeline creation.

You will also help bridge the connection between operations and sales. Transportation is operationally complex. Information flow matters. Cross-functional collaboration matters. Your ability to connect teams and improve communication across functions will help strengthen both customer experience and execution.

Most importantly, you will help build an environment where people grow—where future leaders are developed intentionally, accountability and culture coexist, and people genuinely want to build careers.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE (AND WHY IT MATTERS HERE) →

You understand leadership is not simply managing numbers—it is building people. You have inherited teams before and know credibility cannot be demanded; it must be earned. You know how to walk into organizations with established personalities, existing habits, and varying levels of performance without creating unnecessary disruption. You know how to build trust first.

You have experience developing newer talent while earning respect from experienced professionals who have seen multiple leaders come and go.

You have created structure where inconsistency existed. Built accountability where expectations lacked clarity. Strengthened pipeline quality, improved outbound discipline, and introduced process rigor that elevated execution.

You understand activity does not automatically create growth. Intentional process does.

You have partnered closely with marketing teams and understand strong organizations build pipeline together—not separately.

You know how to lead through change and understand transformation requires patience, consistency, communication, and buy-in.

You understand competitive environments where differentiation is not always the product. Sometimes it is service, responsiveness, execution, relationships.

Transportation, logistics, freight brokerage, or intermodal experience is highly valuable. If you have that, you’d walk in with context most people don’t have. With that said, we also recognize exceptional builders can come from adjacent service environments where coaching, talent development, process creation, and consultative selling matter deeply.

Because ultimately, this role is not about maintaining what exists—it is about helping build what comes next.

Cornerstone Systems was not built by accident.

It was built intentionally by leaders who experienced firsthand the kind of workplace they never wanted to create—environments where culture suffered, people felt like numbers, and leadership philosophies drifted away from how employees deserved to be treated.

They decided to build something different.

Since 1997, Cornerstone has operated with a simple purpose: "To Provide A Better Place For People To Work."

Not because it sounds good.

Because we believe leadership carries responsibility. Leadership should create environments people want to be part of—not environments employees dread walking into.

Cornerstone believes high performance and healthy culture can exist together.

We transitioned to employee ownership because we believe ownership changes how people think. It creates accountability. Pride. Long-term commitment. Many employees have spent years building their careers here because the company believes long-term relationships—internally and externally—still matter.

Integrity, honesty, respect, loyalty, and continuous improvement are not slogans here—they are expectations.

You'll join a team that believes doing right by the customer matters more than checking boxes. A team that believes responsiveness, service, and relationships still win. A place where people genuinely care about helping customers solve hard problems and helping one another succeed along the way.

You will have the opportunity to help shape the future—not simply inherit it.

If building people, strengthening systems, and helping shape what Cornerstone becomes next excites you—we hope we meet soon!

NEXT STEPS →

First, you’ll meet with our recruiter, Amber Barron.

If there’s a strong mutual fit following that conversation, you’ll complete our sales-specific questionnaire to help both sides evaluate compatibility with the role and sales environment.

If alignment continues, you’ll move forward through additional conversations with our leadership team before reaching the final offer stage.

Thank you for choosing to consider Cornerstone Systems!
