Job Description
Apply insulating materials to exposed surfaces of equipment boilers, tanks, hot or cold air ducts or pipes and steam generators for the purpose of insulating, protecting or dampening. Lay out, cuts, forms and shapes insulation. Apply cement, foam and adhesive to insulation. Inspect areas to be insulated, ensuring they are clean and ready for insulation. Prepare surfaces (such as cleaning or sanding) to ensure proper installation of insulation materials. Install insulation on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, pipes, and ducts. Insulate industrial equipment and systems to prevent energy loss or equipment overheating. Estimate material and labor for in-house renovation and maintenance projects. Inspect existing insulation systems to check for wear and damage. Repair or replace damaged or deteriorated insulation to restore energy efficiency and safety. Recommend energy-saving solutions based on insulation inspections. Ensure that insulation is properly installed to meet the desired thermal performance and energy efficiency goals. Understand blueprints and building plans to determine the type and amount of insulation required for specific projects. Work alongside other construction professionals, such as electricians, plumbers, and HVAC specialists, to ensure that insulation is correctly installed in coordination with other systems. Communicate with clients or supervisors about the insulation process, cost, and timeline. After installation, ensure that the worksite is cleaned and free of debris from insulation materials. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): Ability to effectively communicate. Knowledge of insulation methods, techniques, and materials, including fiberglass, foam, mineral wool, cellulose, and other insulation products, with an understanding of their properties, and how they are applied. Understanding building codes and safety regulations that apply to insulation work. Knowledge of and skill in using hand tools, power equipment, and specialized insulation equipment, including knives, saws, insulation blowers, spray machines, and protective gear. Ability to use hand tools and power equipment skillfully, such as knives, saws, and insulation blowers, to cut and install insulation. Ability to accurately measure, cut, and install insulation with attention to detail, ensuring proper coverage, minimizing gaps, and maximizing energy efficiency. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve installation challenges, including fitting insulation into irregular or hard-to-reach spaces while ensuring safe, accurate, and effective installation. Ability to install insulation materials efficiently and effectively, ensuring proper fit and function. Ability to work with minimal supervision, taking responsibility for one's tasks and ensuring deadlines are met. Ability to work well in a team, collaborating with other construction professionals to ensure the insulation work integrates seamlessly with other systems. Physical Requirements: Demonstrated ability to perform physically demanding insulation work, including safely lifting and handling heavy materials, bending, and working in cramped or awkward positions. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
