Position: Director of Consumer Insights, Home & Outdoor  

Department: Marketing for Home & Outdoor 

Work Location: New York, NY, Hybrid (work 3 days onsite) 

Hybrid Schedule: At Helen of Troy, we embrace a flexible hybrid work model designed to support collaboration and productivity. For roles eligible for hybrid work, our standard schedule includes in-office collaboration from Tuesday through Thursday, with the option to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays. Any updates to this model will be communicated in advance. Please note that hybrid eligibility and schedules may vary based on business needs and manager expectations.  

What you will be doing:  

The Director, Global Consumer Insights, is a trusted advisor and business partner to brand marketing teams. They are responsible for leading an insights team and developing the best global practices related to brand foundations, consumer journeys, communication benchmarking, brand health tracking and marketing excellence training. They will lead a team of insights professionals responsible for designing and executing primary research in conjunction with external partners, synthesizing and reporting key research findings, and making recommendations to support business strategies and decision making that drive brand growth.

This role will embed itself deeply within Home & Outdoor brands (OXO, Osprey, and Hydro Flask) in order to understand stakeholder research needs – including become a category and consumer ‘expert’ across these brands. Additionally, the Director will be responsible for learning and continuing existing insights initiatives, vendor partnerships, and processes – while simultaneously looking for opportunities to improve process and ramp up the execution of insights.

The Director will work closely with the Senior Director, Enterprise & Global Consumer Insights to ensure that H&O division specific insight initiatives ladder up to the overall Helen of Troy strategy, as well as to foster a collaborative culture of cross-learning.

  • Works to ensure consumers are at the heart of everything we do. Helps infuse consumer-obsessed culture and champion the external view across our businesses.

  • Works with brand marketing and cross-functional partners to create a learning / research plan that identifies and addresses key knowledge gaps and business opportunities.

  • Helps ensure the research plan and budget align to key priorities across brand strategy, innovation, and communications.

  • Assists in developing, executing, and delivering custom research studies (qualitative and quantitative). Specifically, this individual helps develop research objectives, design research, select research partners, analyze results, make recommendations, and present results -- on time, cost effective and with high quality.

  • Helps ensure insights are woven throughout brand strategy, creative development, experience activation and innovation initiatives.

  • Assists in developing a comprehensive understanding of the business environment including competitive brands and products, macroeconomic, social, and demographic factors, and trends.

  • Contributes to monitoring of brand health and performance.

  • Connects the dots across multiple sources of data and information to generate insight and make meaningful recommendations that drive competitive advantage and growth.

  • Collaborates with analytics team on measurement findings and indicated actions.

Skills needed to be successful in this role: 

  • Strong passion and empathy for consumers.

  • Strategic and analytical thinking.

  • Bias for action, driving strategic outcomes through influence, collaboration & organizational savviness.

  • Experienced multiple types of projects, including positioning, brand architecture, creative / messaging development and evaluation, innovation ideation, development, and evaluation, claims testing, segmentation, omni-channel consumer journey’s, path to purchase, brand health tracking, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • 10+ years of professional experience with relevant consumer insight background

  • Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Vendor-side and Moderation experience

  • Experience in CPG and durable goods

  • MBA

  • Outdoor industry/category

In New York, the standard base pay range for this role is $170,000 - $195,000 annually. This base pay range is specific to New York and may not be applicable to other locations. Actual salaries will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to location, experience, skill level, and performance. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package for employees.
