Sterile ProcessingJob Summary
Under General supervision of the Sterile Processing Manager and direct supervision of the Sterile Processing Shift Supervisor. Cleans, assembles and sterilizes equipment, supplies and instruments. Decontaminates, assembles and sterilizes surgical instruments utilizing steam autoclaves and Plasma low temperature sterilization equipment. Technicians perform high level disinfection of equipment and instrumentation, utilizing Automatic Endoscope Reprocessing units and manual soaking protocols.
Essential Functions:
- Equipment and Sanitation Responsibilities
• Decontaminates, assembles and sterilizes all equipment and instruments properly and completely. Maintain all proper procedures and guidelines during the cleaning, preparation and sterilization process. Ensure all steps are followed during the Decontamination cleaning and inspection has.
• Provides direct assistance to all Ambulatory, Ancillary, & OR staff members in managing their instrumentation sets maintenance and updates.
• Performs all Decontamination maintenance duties completely, including sink cleaning, stainless steel counter top cleaning. Complete all washers, cavitation machine and cart washer efficacy testing. Sweeps and mops all floors.
• Performs all Assembly maintenance duties completely. Cleaning and stocking of work stations Pre-work and Post Work processes. Clean all stainless steel counter tops. Organize instrument staging rack and prioritize all instrument sets.
• Performs all Sterilization maintenance duties completely. Organize sterilization work stations to include Biological incubators staging area. Organize Sterilization racks. Clean stainless steel counter tops.
• Comprehensively utilizes all electronic tracking systems as intended and implemented. Reports any discrepancies within the safety arena I.E. Sharps, medication, or damaged equipment and instrumentation received. Technician demonstrates the ability to perform all Collection and distribution of instrument sets & equipment duties for the departments serviced. (80%) - Customer Service
• Technician demonstrates the ability to provide optimum Customer service during computer e-mails, phone calls, or in person. Provide accurate information to all customers and assist in problem resolution to completion.
• Coordinates all patient care efforts with multidisciplinary teams within the hospital.

Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required
Work Experience:
- Two years of sterile processing experience required
Licenses:
- CSPDT-Certified SPD Technician - CBSPD - Certification Board for Sterile Processing & Distribution required OR
- HSPA- Technician - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association required OR
- CRCST-Certified Registered Central Service Technician - Tradesmen International required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of hospital safety hazard protocols including universal precautions and body mechanics ergonomics.
- Ability and aptitude to maintain all quality control standards established in the decontamination, assembly and sterilization work areas.
- Ability to maintain all departmental documentation duties including but not limited to electronic records maintenance, verification, validation, and completion within the decontamination, prep and packaging and sterilization areas.
- Ability to perform all duties within the AAMI / AORN standards. Technician demonstrates the ability to follow all Manufacture intentions for usage for all equipment and instrumentation reprocessed.
- Show the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
- Technician maintains professional communication both electronically and in person.
- Technician maintains respect for all coworkers by acknowledging their values and beliefs.
- Being on time every day and ready to work at the start of the shift.
- Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, Sterile Processing Microsystems, One Source document management.
