Are you passionate about creating a welcoming environment while keeping visitors and artwork safe? The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is looking for a courteous, reliable, and safety-focused Guest Services Officer (Exterior) to help protect our grounds, assist visitors, and serve as a vital ambassador of our museum.

Location: Kansas City, MO (On-site)
Status: Full-Time
Schedule:

Monday: 9:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Tuesday: 9:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Thursday: 9:30 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Friday: 9:30 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Pay Rate: $16.24/hour

Exterior Officers are often the first face of the museum, creating a positive and safe experience for all.
What You’ll Do
As a Guest Services Officer (Exterior), you'll help visitors feel welcome and safe as they explore our museum and grounds. You’ll prevent damage to artworks and property, respond to emergencies, and offer helpful information and directions.
Key responsibilities include:

Greeting and assisting guests with professionalism and warmth

Providing directions and information about artworks, exhibitions, and amenities

Monitoring assigned areas (interior and exterior) to ensure the safety of visitors, staff, and the art

Following post procedures including box and speaker checks, incident reports, and safety sweeps

Responding to emergencies with calmness and confidence; performing basic first aid or CPR as needed

Operating a bike, cart, or scooter safely per museum guidelines

Handling cash transactions, operating a cash register and credit card machine

Directing traffic or assisting in the garage as needed

Using technology, including email, computers, and spreadsheets
What You Bring

High school diploma or GED
-
Excellent attendance, reliability, and customer service skills
-
Strong communication and professionalism in all interactions

Ability to stay calm and courteous in stressful situations
-
Basic computer and typing skills

Ability to stand and remain alert for long periods

Physical capability to climb stairs, lift up to 30 lbs, and work in all outdoor weather conditions

Willingness to work weekends and occasional overtime

Good vision and hearing
