Position Overview

As ZURU's product portfolio and global footprint continue to expand, we are strengthening our in-house legal capability to keep pace with the business. We are looking for an experienced Intellectual Property Lawyer to join our Legal team in Ahmedabad and to play a central role in protecting ZURU's intellectual property rights and mitigating contractual risks worldwide.

The core responsibilities for the role are:

1. Intellectual property advisory and strategy, with a focus on design rights

2. Commercial contract drafting and negotiation

3. Cross-functional and external counsel coordination

Responsibilities

Intellectual Property Advisory & Strategy

▪ Provide expert in-house legal counsel on IP matters, including design rights, copyright, trademarks, and patents, across key international markets.

▪ Advise product design, marketing, and commercial teams on IP ownership, clearance, licensing, and protection strategies at every stage of the product lifecycle.

▪ Assist with intellectual property prosecution, acquisition, and strategy. Assist with litigation matters relating to intellectual property.

▪ Monitor developments in international IP law and assess and advice on their commercial implications.

Commercial Contract Drafting & Negotiation

▪ Independently draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements, including IP licensing and assignment agreements marketing and promotions agreements, distribution agreements, third party logistics agreements, and manufacturing agreements.

▪ Review and advise on IP-related provisions in commercial contracts.

▪ Review and advise on product development materials, product packaging, advertising, and marketing content, including digital campaigns, contests, and promotions.

Cross-Functional & External Counsel Coordination

▪ Work collaboratively with internal legal and non-legal teams to address legal and business issues efficiently.

▪ Liaise with external IP attorneys and legal teams to coordinate enforcement strategies and resolve disputes.

▪ Provide training and guidance to internal stakeholders on IP compliance and risk management.

▪ Assist in the development of corporate IP policies and legal procedures.

Skills & Experience

▪ Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) or equivalent legal degree from a recognised university.

▪ Minimum 5 years of PQE in IP law at a law firm and/or in an in-house legal team.

▪ Demonstrable expertise in design rights.

▪ Ability to assess and evaluate a broad range of legal issues and risks and provide commercially focused, practical legal advice in a fast-paced business environment.

▪ Strong contract review, drafting and negotiation skills.

▪ Excellent legal writing and communication skills in English, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels of the organisation.

▪ A collaborative, solutions-oriented approach and the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

▪ Exposure to multi-jurisdictional IP matters and cross-border enforcement preferred.
