About the Position
At SolarWinds, we’re looking for a Senior Director of Marketing to lead strategy, organizational scale, and business outcomes for our Database business.
This is not a brand-only or campaign-only role. We’re looking for a senior business leader who has owned a number—someone who has been accountable for pipeline, revenue contribution, customer growth, retention influence, and business performance—and who knows how to build the marketing system, leadership bench, and operating cadence behind those results.
This leader will own the marketing strategy and execution model across a complex Database portfolio spanning SaaS, on-prem, and recurring revenue models. You will partner closely with Product, Sales, Customer Success, Finance, and executive leadership to accelerate demand, sharpen go-to-market execution, improve funnel performance, and scale durable growth across both SMB and Enterprise segments.
This role also requires a strong understanding of the database market and buyer. You should know how to market to technical audiences such as DBAs, data platform teams, developers, architects, and IT leaders, and how to translate database use cases into clear business value, differentiated positioning, and repeatable growth programs. You will be expected to operate as a senior leader in a matrixed environment, driving alignment, prioritization, and execution across multiple teams and stakeholders.

You are a structured, metrics-oriented growth leader with a strong demand generation foundation, executive presence, and the ability to drive change at scale. You know how to move from strategy to execution, lead through influence, and build high-performing teams that deliver measurable business impact. You are comfortable operating across ambiguity, making tradeoff decisions, and creating clarity for the organization. You care deeply about building a business, not just running a function.
Responsibilities
- Own and lead the end-to-end marketing strategy for the SolarWinds Database business, aligned to company growth priorities and business unit goals
- Drive business outcomes including sales pipeline, closed-won revenue, customer growth, retention influence, expansion, and overall go-to-market performance
- Lead, develop, and scale a broader marketing organization, including recruiting, hiring, coaching, and managing directors, managers, senior managers, and individual contributors
- Build a high-accountability organization with clear priorities, strong operating rhythms, rigorous performance management, and a culture of execution and development
- Serve as a senior strategic partner to executive leadership, helping shape growth priorities, investment decisions, segmentation, and go-to-market tradeoffs across the Database business
- Partner cross-functionally to improve funnel performance, customer journey design, and go-to-market effectiveness across database buyer segments, use cases, and routes to market
- Lead demand generation and customer marketing strategies across new business, cross-sell, upsell, retention, and expansion motions
- Oversee content and go-to-market messaging for the Database business, including pitch decks, positioning, ICP definition, value propositions, nurture strategy, sales enablement inputs, and AI/LLM training support for database use cases
- Use technology, analytics, forecasting, and experimentation to improve efficiency, visibility, and predictability across the marketing funnel
- Build and manage the operating model for the business, including planning, KPI tracking, investment prioritization, and executive reporting
- Help the business translate technical database capabilities into compelling market positioning and programs that resonate with both practitioner and executive audiences
- Identify growth opportunities across segments, products, and customer motions, and mobilize cross-functional teams to capture them
- Elevate organizational capability by building stronger leadership depth, scalable processes, and repeatable systems that improve performance over time
Requirements
- 15+ years of experience leading marketing organizations, product lines, or growth-focused functions, with significant experience in senior leadership roles
- Proven track record of driving revenue-impacting business outcomes, not just marketing activity
- Strong demand generation background with experience across pipeline creation, funnel optimization, conversion improvement, and revenue accountability
- Significant people leadership experience, including leading larger, multi-level teams and developing other leaders
- Experience hiring, coaching, and mentoring directors, managers, and senior managers
- Experience operating in SaaS, on-prem, and/or recurring revenue business models
- Ability to lead across both SMB and Enterprise motions
- Strong structured thinking and analytical rigor; able to translate data into action, priorities, and operating decisions
- Experience building alignment across cross-functional teams through influence, persuasion, and clarity in a matrixed environment
- Strong understanding of technical or infrastructure-oriented buyers, ideally within database, observability, monitoring, or adjacent enterprise software categories
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including executive-level communication
- High ownership mentality, strong urgency, and a bias for execution
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

- Know how to scale teams, systems, and operating cadence as the business grows
- Are comfortable acting as a visible senior leader with influence across both strategy and execution
