Job Description

Are you passionate about turning complex data into intuitive, actionable insights? Red Hat’s Observability Group is looking for a strategic and people-focused Software Engineering Manager to lead our UI team and a core group of initiative leads (architects).

In this role, you won't just be managing a team; you will be the driver of a "single pane of glass" vision for Observability across Red Hat’s portfolio, including OpenShift and Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management (RHACM). You will lead a high-impact UI team and senior architects whose work acts as the connective tissue across our entire Observability ecosystem. Your mission is to use the UI as a catalyst for cross-team collaboration, ensuring that disparate data streams—metrics, logs, traces, and events—coalesce into a seamless, world-class user experience.

What you will do

  • Lead & Empower: Manage and mentor a talented team of Frontend Engineers and Senior Architects, fostering a culture of technical excellence, inclusion, and continuous growth.

  • Architectural Strategy: Partner with your architects to oversee technical roadmaps that span across multiple Observability domains, ensuring a unified architectural approach to data visualization and integration.

  • Cross-Team Orchestration: Act as a key liaison between the UI team and other backend Observability teams. You will translate requirements from various stakeholders into a cohesive UI strategy that serves the entire group.

  • Drive the "Single Pane of Glass": Champion the development of a unified interface for OpenShift and RHACM, ensuring users have a consistent and powerful experience when monitoring complex hybrid cloud environments.

  • Collaboration Catalyst: Position the UI team as a central hub for innovation. Use frontend development as a medium to facilitate cross-functional collaboration and break down silos between different Observability pillars.

  • Strategic Execution: Work closely with Product Management and Senior Leadership to align engineering efforts with business priorities, ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality software in an agile, open-source environment.

What you will bring

  • Engineering Leadership: Experience in a people-management role within a software engineering organization, ideally managing both individual contributors and senior technical leads/architects. Alternatively, experience in a technical leadership role where you led large technical topics end to end but without people management responsibilities.

  • UI/UX Domain Expertise: Experience in frontend development and modern JavaScript frameworks (e.g., React) is a plus. Familiarity with design systems (like Red Hat’s PatternFly) is a significant plus.

  • Stakeholder Management: Proven ability to navigate complex organizational structures and build consensus across multiple teams with competing priorities.

  • Observability Knowledge: Understanding of the Observability landscape, including metrics, logging, distributed tracing, and the challenges of visualizing high-cardinality data is a plus.

  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to see the "big picture" and guide architects in making technical decisions that support long-term product goals.

  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

The following experience and attributes are considered a plus if the candidate:

  • Thrives in Open Source environments and understands the nuances of upstream/downstream development.

  • Has experience with Kubernetes, OpenShift, or other container orchestration platforms.

  • Believes that the UI is not just a "skin" but a critical tool for solving complex engineering problems.

  • Is an empathetic leader who prioritizes psychological safety and team well-being.
