Primary Function The Certified Operator Instructor II is responsible for developing and conducting technical training to GP customers in proper operation and daily maintenance of Heavy Equipment as well as preparing quotes and assisting with invoicing training services. Bilingual (Spanish/English) skills are preferred but not required.
Essential Duties
General Training
Perform theoretical/practical-using knowledge of adult learning. Presents prepared training programs to individuals or groups
Confer with management, customers, and staff to determine operator training needs
Work with the Training Coordinator to prepare training schedule of classes based on customer request and availability of training equipment
Participate in meetings, seminars, and training sessions to obtain equipment operation and integrates information into training program
Ensures that people, equipment, and material are in place when needed
Regularly and on time submit an accurate record of business expenses for reimbursement. Targeted for the 25th of each month
Maintain regular and punctual attendance and communicate schedule changes as needed
Model and reinforce company values, tools, and processes to support organizational alignment
Continuously improve technical knowledge and job performance through ongoing learning
Operator Training
Facilitate classes on heavy equipment operator safety and machine operation following outline and texts
Haul and Operate Simulator Trailer for training on location at Customer sites and different events
Demonstrate procedures being taught, such as equipment operations and daily maintenance
Instruct students on proper machine operation and observe students while operating
Lead class discussion groups on safety and proper equipment operation. Manage conflict within a group, assures total and balanced participation
Administer written and practical exams and write performance reports to evaluate students’ performance. Analyze test data and reports the effectiveness of operator training
Assist individuals in determining their equipment strengths and areas requiring improvement. Work with individuals one-on-one to assess skills, knowledge, and abilities. Help market the total training package to external customer
Identify areas in which operator training is needed to achieve targeted levels of performance. Measures current levels of performance against ideal desired levels of performance
Follow and ensure all safety policies, procedures, and standards at all times
Technology Training
Learn and understand Grade Control, Safety, and Site Positioning Infrastructure Technologies and be able to train our customers on how to use it and support Gregory Poole Technology Team with customer technology demonstrations
Minimum Requirements
Education
High School diploma required; associate degree or bachelor's degree preferred.
Work Experience
2-5+ years of equipment operational experience.
2-4+ years' experience training/ educating others on equipment operations.
Physical
Must regularly use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reaches with hands and arms; climbs or balances; stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls; and talks or hears, as well as stands, walks and sits
Must be able to lift and carry up to 45 pounds regularly and/or occasionally.
Must be able to travel to Gregory Poole facilities up to 50% of the time.
vision abilities require close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
Must have the physical capabilities to climb stairs and large pieces of mobile heavy equipment.
Works near moving mechanical parts and frequently works in outside weather conditions and is exposed to wet/humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles.
Occasionally exposed to extreme cold or heat.
The noise level in the work environment may also be very loud.
Requires normal eyesight to read and interpret technical information, as well as hearing and speaking ability to communicate with personnel of GPEC and those employed by our customers.
Must have the ability to distinguish color is desired.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers of GPEC.

Obtain and maintain Cat Certified Dealer Instructor including 3 machine families
Obtain and maintain Caterpillar Certified Instructor Accreditation Program (CIAP)
Must keep current MSHA certification, and Site-Specific safety Certifications for our customer sites
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
Must have a valid driver’s license and meet Gregory Poole MVR criteria.
