
Welding Inspector (Wawa)
Job Description
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Welding Engineering, or related discipline.
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or equivalent certification preferred.
- Certification in NDT (Level II) is an advantage.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in welding inspection for hydropower, dams, power plants, industrial facilities, or large infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with AWS, ASME, ISO, API, and other applicable welding standards.
- Strong knowledge of welding processes, metallurgy, welding defects, and inspection techniques.
- Proficient in reading engineering drawings, welding symbols, specifications, and quality documentation
- Conduct visual inspection of welding works before, during, and after welding activities.
- Verify compliance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and project specifications.
- Inspect joint preparation, fit-up, alignment, root gap, bevel angle, and welding consumables prior to welding.
- Monitor welding parameters including preheating, interpass temperatures, and post-weld heat treatment where applicable.
- Identify welding defects such as cracks, porosity, undercut, lack of fusion, and incomplete penetration, and recommend corrective actions.
- Ensure all welds meet acceptance criteria in accordance with applicable standards and codes.
- Review welder qualifications and certifications prior to commencement of work.
- Maintain welding inspection records, weld maps, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and inspection reports.
- Verify material traceability, mill certificates, and welding consumable certifications.
- Ensure all inspection and testing activities are properly documented and submitted to the QA/QC system.
- Participate in preparation and implementation of Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
- Coordinate with contractors, site engineers, QA/QC personnel, and NDT specialists regarding welding quality issues.
- Witness and verify Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) activities including UT, RT, MT, and PT as required.
- Attend quality meetings and provide recommendations for welding-related quality improvements.
- Monitor contractor compliance with project specifications, safety requirements, and quality procedures.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly welding inspection reports.
- Report non-conforming works and monitor implementation of corrective actions.
- Provide technical recommendations to the Resident Engineer regarding welding quality concerns and acceptance of completed works
