Senior Design Engineer (Road and Infrastructure)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES  

• Take overall responsibility for civil, road, and infrastructure design and design review activities for assigned projects, including the technical review and checking of contractor design submissions as part of the internal quality assurance and control process. 

• Coordinate closely with design, construction management, and project control teams to ensure design deliverables are aligned with construction sequencing, site constraints, and project programme requirements. 

• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of Design Engineers, providing technical guidance, design oversight, and support to ensure timely and high-quality project delivery. 

• Prepare, review, and approve technical correspondence, reports, and submissions related to road, infrastructure, geotechnical, and pavement design matters, and coordinate with construction management and contract administration teams. 

• Provide professional civil and infrastructure engineering services for road and transport infrastructure projects, including highways, interchanges, local roads, drainage systems, earthworks, and associated infrastructure works. 

• Undertake and review the analysis and design of earthworks, ground improvement, pavement systems, slope stability, and associated geotechnical works in support of road and infrastructure developments. 

• Carry out and approve the design and assessment of civil and structural elements, including foundations, retaining structures, culverts, bridges (as applicable), and ancillary structures using reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, and steel. 

• Ensure all designs and technical deliverables are prepared in compliance with the Design Process Plan, SMEC standards, and applicable codes and guidelines, including British Standards, ASTM, AASHTO, and relevant Philippine standards for roads, highways, and public infrastructure. 

• Liaise independently with Clients, Contractors, and relevant government authorities throughout the design process to clarify requirements, address technical issues, and ensure stakeholder expectations are met. 

• Review, approve, and endorse design reports, calculations, drawings, and technical documents in accordance with project specifications and client requirements. 

• Review and approve design specifications and technical inputs for tender and contract documents related to road and infrastructure works. 

• Perform design reviews of civil, road, and geotechnical components for infrastructure projects such as highways, interchanges, embankments, drainage systems, retaining walls, and associated structures for both local and overseas projects, where applicable. 

• Provide technical support during tender and proposal stages, including input to methodology, design concepts, risk assessment, and pricing to support successful project pursuits. 

RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE   

• Bachelor/master’s degree in civil engineering from recognised and reputable university 

• Minimum 5 years of relevant civil engineering experience in large-scale road, highway, or infrastructure projects, including design, analysis, and review of civil and geotechnical works. 

• Possess the skill, knowledge and ability to manage and co-ordinate all the design activities 

• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English 

• Team player and able to multi-task 

• Discipline, self-motivated and resourceful 

• Experience in contract administration will be advantageous 

• Well-versed in Microsoft Office Suite of Software (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Excel etc) 

• Proficiency in engineering software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Plaxis etc
