POSITION SUMMARY INFORMATION: DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS
Position Overview: In this role, you will support pharmacy operations within the detention facility by assisting pharmacists and healthcare personnel with medication preparation, inventory management, prescription processing, and pharmaceutical documentation activities supporting a detention facility. You will help ensure medications are handled, stored, and distributed accurately and safely in accordance with government detention standards, healthcare regulations, and facility policies. This position requires strong attention to detail, organizational skills, professionalism, confidentiality, and the ability to work effectively within a secure correctional healthcare environment while supporting safe and efficient pharmaceutical operations.
Responsibilities:
- Assist pharmacists with preparing, packaging, labeling, and distributing medications in accordance with physician orders, pharmacy procedures, and facility operational standards.
- Maintain accurate pharmaceutical records, prescription logs, medication inventories, controlled substance documentation, and operational reports related to pharmacy activities.
- Process medication requests, prescription refills, healthcare documentation, and pharmaceutical tracking records accurately and efficiently.
- Monitor medication inventory levels, expiration dates, storage conditions, and supply accountability while coordinating restocking and procurement activities as necessary.
- Ensure medications, pharmaceutical supplies, and controlled substances are stored, handled, and secured properly in compliance with healthcare regulations and facility procedures.
- Coordinate with pharmacists, nurses, physicians, behavioral health personnel, and healthcare staff regarding medication distribution and resident pharmaceutical needs.
- Assist with medication audits, inventory reconciliation activities, pharmacy inspections, and compliance reviews to ensure operational accountability and regulatory compliance.
- Operate pharmacy systems, dispensing equipment, inventory software, and healthcare databases used for pharmaceutical management activities.
- Respond to routine pharmacy operational concerns, medication requests, inventory discrepancies, and healthcare support needs while communicating issues to supervisory personnel.
- Maintain confidentiality of resident healthcare information and comply with HIPAA requirements, pharmacy regulations, and facility policies at all times.
- Support emergency preparedness activities, medication distribution operations, and continuity of care services related to resident healthcare treatment.
- Maintain professionalism, attention to detail, effective communication, and strong organizational skills while supporting safe and efficient pharmaceutical operations within the detention facility.
Qualifications:
- Must possess one (1) year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
- Must possess a valid Arizona Pharmacy Technician License.
- Must be able to provide proof of citizenship or legal US work authorization.
- If prior active-duty military, must provide copies of DD214(s) showing discharge condition.
- Must consent to fingerprinting.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
- Clean criminal record and ability to pass a comprehensive background check and security screening.
- Ability to pass a preemployment medical assessment and drug screening.
- Excellent communication, observation, and report-writing skills.
- Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure and in high-stress situations.
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Work Environment:
Employees may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
Physical Requirements:
Employees may be required to remain in a stationary position, stand, push, pull, climb, kneel, crawl, balance, squat, bend, and reach. Employees may be also required to use gear to move items around, including, but not limited to, carts and dollies. Employees may also be occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 49 pounds.
