Position Description & Qualifications


The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Comprehensive Error Rate Testing (CERT) program plays a vital role in safeguarding the integrity of the Medicare Fee-for-Service (FFS) program by ensuring that taxpayer-funded healthcare payments are accurate, appropriate, and compliant with federal requirements. Supporting CMS’s obligations under the Payment Integrity Information Act (PIIA), the program uses statistically valid sampling and independent medical review of claims to identify improper payments and measure program performance. The insights generated through CERT enable CMS to strengthen accountability, improve healthcare delivery practices, and drive corrective actions that protect both beneficiaries and public funds. Through this work, the CERT program helps uphold transparency, stewardship, and trust in one of the nation’s most critical healthcare systems.

As a Medical Records Manager, you will:

  • Provide oversight of the medical records workflow process including initial requests, logging and tracking, distribution, storage, destruction and/or forwarding of all medical records
  • Monitor all stages in the production cycle
  • Initiate and implements interventions necessary to address or prevent any disruptions to the medical record workflow
  • Ensure timely processing of project deliverables related to medical records
  • Coordinate the assignment of medical records for claim review and IQC functions
  • Provide oversight of the record imaging system
  • Open and correctly routes all mail relating to the distribution and workload processes
  • Produce and submits required reports according to established content and time guidelines
  • Ensure departmental compliance with quality management system and ISO requirements
  • Determine and coordinates the education and training for the department staff
  • Develop and approves departmental policies and procedures for the MR unit
  • Effectively communicate with the customer, stakeholders and employees
  • Perform other projects and responsibilities as assigned by the Program Director

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in business, management or computer science, prefer certification as RHIA or ART.
  • 4 years experience managing routine operations preferably, in a large medical records department.
  • Ability to work under pressure and within designated time constraints
  • Ability to solve problems and resolve issues as they arise
  • Ability to multitask 
  • Knowledge of personal computer systems including MS Word, MS Excel

For roles available in multiple states, the range may vary to reflect differences in local labor markets. In addition to base salary, eligible positions may include other forms of compensation such as annual bonuses or long-term incentive opportunities.
