Job Summary:
This position provides academic counseling through student advising, degree planning, and participation in registering students. The incumbent advises and counsels students regarding degree requirements, curriculum policies, transfer coursework, and course selection; participates in activities associated with student registration and orientation; monitors student academic progress and degree completion requirements; maintains student records and advising documentation; assists students in navigating university policies and procedures; collaborates with academic departments and campus partners to support student success; and provides timely referrals to appropriate campus resources when needed.The position supports new student orientation, evaluates transfer and advanced placement credit for advising purposes, assists with graduation planning, and helps students resolve academic issues related to registration, degree progress, and university policies.
Advises students on academic matters, such as course selection and degree requirements, while maintaining appropriate confidentiality to ensure students reach academic, personal, and professional success.
Job Description:
Receives, processes and responds to academic inquiries according to established policies and procedures.
Serves as a main point of contact for students providing basic organizational information about educational options, academic requirements and institutional resources and addressing their needs.
Counsels students in identifying and assessing their interests, skills and values to match appropriate fields of study and career options and refers students to appropriate institutional resources.
Advise undergraduate students regarding degree requirements, curriculum planning, academic policies, and course selection to support timely progress toward graduation.
Assist students with registration, schedule adjustments, and resolution of academic issues while maintaining accurate advising records and documentation.
Monitor student academic progress through university systems and proactively communicate with students regarding concerns, opportunities, and graduation requirements.
Interpret and explain university, college, and departmental policies and procedures to students, faculty, and staff. Participate in new student orientation, registration programs, and other student success initiatives.
Collaborate with academic departments and campus partners to assist students with referrals, academic support services, and problem resolution.
Review transfer coursework, advanced placement credit, and other academic records for advising purposes.
Maintain confidential student records in accordance with university policies and applicable regulations.
Respond to student inquiries in a timely and professional manner through in-person, phone, email, and virtual advising appointments.
Assist with special projects, reporting, and initiatives that support advising operations and student success goals.
