Position Summary
GenServe is seeking a highly organized and strategic Fleet Manager – Purchasing Manager to oversee the company’s fleet operations, vehicle procurement strategy, DOT compliance, and capital equipment sourcing initiatives. This role will partner closely with Operations, Dispatch, Service Leadership, and vendors to ensure technicians have the right equipment, in the right place, at the right time.
The ideal candidate is analytical, proactive, and operationally focused, with experience managing fleet programs, purchasing initiatives, vendor relationships, and cost optimization efforts across multiple locations.
Key Responsibilities
Fleet Strategy & Vehicle Management
- Develop and execute the annual fleet replacement strategy
- Optimize total vehicle spend while improving fleet reliability and utilization
- Manage the return, resale, and disposal of aging fleet vehicles
- Review vehicle specifications to ensure fleet configurations align with operational needs
- Coordinate vehicle upfitting and equipment installation for field technicians
- Reposition fleet vehicles between branches and service locations as business needs evolve
- Partner with Operations leadership to forecast technician growth and ensure timely vehicle availability
- Supplement planned fleet orders with dealer stock purchases when operational demands require immediate deployment
Fleet Analytics & Cost Management
- Achieve and maintain greater than 70% utilization of in-network maintenance vendors
- Provide monthly reporting and analytics related to fuel consumption and maintenance spend
- Deliver quarterly fleet operating cost analysis, including total cost-per-unit metrics
- Drive initiatives to reduce overall fleet operating costs by targeted annual goals
- Analyze quarterly vehicle mileage trends and collaborate with Dispatch to identify route optimization opportunities
- Maintain accurate fleet inventory records by location within internal databases and systems
Compliance & Fleet Programs
- Manage and maintain the company’s DOT compliance program
- Oversee fleet documentation, registrations, inspections, and compliance tracking
- Implement and manage the Motus/company vehicle allowance program
- Lead the transition of company-leased vehicles into the allowance program structure
Purchasing & Capital Equipment
- Source and procure capital equipment including generators, load banks, forklifts, and related operational assets
- Negotiate and manage third-party carrier and parcel service contracts
- Support purchasing initiatives across additional commodities and operational categories as needed
- Develop and maintain strong vendor and supplier relationships to ensure competitive pricing and service quality
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent combination of experience and education
- 5+ years of experience in fleet management, purchasing, procurement, or operations support
- Experience managing vehicle fleets, maintenance programs, or transportation operations
- Strong understanding of DOT compliance requirements and fleet best practices
- Proven analytical and reporting skills with experience using fleet management systems and Excel
- Experience negotiating vendor, carrier, or service agreements
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced service environment
Preferred Experience
- Experience supporting field service or industrial operations
- Familiarity with fleet telematics, fuel programs, or maintenance tracking platforms
- Exposure to CAPEX sourcing and operational equipment procurement
- Experience implementing vehicle allowance or reimbursement programs
