Job Description

We’re on a mission to be the number #1 European cloud platform. While data sovereignty has become a hot topic in the EU, we can proudly say that we’ve been mastering it since 2011.

UpCloud offers the world’s fastest cloud servers from its 15 datacenters around the world. Our customers run business-critical web applications on our IaaS platform and trust us for exceptional performance and reliability. We are proud and work hard to keep our customers happy - our high NPS and CSAT scores reflect our commitment to excellence.

To accelerate this growth, we’re looking for a Pre-Sales Cloud Architect to join our international, experienced Sales and Solutions team. We are looking for a technical visionary who can bridge the gap between complex business requirements and high-performance cloud infrastructure. You’ll be the technical backbone of our sales process, helping European businesses migrate to a faster, sovereign cloud.

Main responsibilities:

  • Solution Design: Partnering with the sales team to design and architect robust, scalable, and cost-effective solutions on UpCloud’s IaaS and PaaS platforms.

  • Technical Discovery: Leading deep-dive technical discussions with prospective customers to understand their infrastructure pain points and performance needs.

  • Proof of Concepts (PoC): Guiding customers through the evaluation phase, assisting with migrations, and proving the performance superiority of our platform.

  • Technical Advocacy: Acting as a subject matter expert on cloud architecture, security, and data sovereignty for our European client base.

  • Public Speaking & Content: Representing UpCloud at industry events and contributing to technical whitepapers or architectural "best practice" guides.

  • Product Feedback Loop: Working closely with our Product and Engineering teams to relay market requirements and influence our product roadmap.

  • Strategic Tenders: Providing technical leadership and detailed responses for RFPs and RFIs.

To succeed in the role, you will need to have:

  • Architectural Mindset: A strong background in designing cloud-native or hybrid infrastructure environments.

  • Cloud Expertise: Deep understanding of IaaS (compute, storage, networking) and the evolving landscape of PaaS.

  • Customer Centricity: Excellent presentation skills and the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both CTOs and SysAdmins.

  • Hands-on Skills: Proficiency in Linux and Windows environments and experience with automation/IaC (Infrastructure as Code) tools.

  • Communication: Fluent in Finnish and English, both in written and oral skills.

  • Location: We are looking for someone who wants to join our sales team at our Helsinki office.

We also appreciate (read: not a must, but a nice plus):

  • Experience with Terraform, Kubernetes (UK8s), and Managed Databases.

  • Previous experience in a Pre-Sales, Solutions Architecture, or Sales Engineering role within the cloud industry.

  • Knowledge of European data protection regulations (GDPR) and their impact on cloud architecture.

Why join UpCloud?

UpCloud is in an exciting phase right now, on track for massive growth in the cloud market. We offer a chance to be part of something big, where you can really make a difference! With our awesome team, products, and excellent positioning in the European cloud scene, UpCloud is in the perfect spot for anyone who wants to learn, grow, and shape the future of cloud tech.

You get to join a driven, highly motivated team committed to making a difference in the market. We have a unique market opportunity in Europe with our strong local infrastructure because our biggest competitors are all US-based, which is what makes this such a captivating opportunity to learn and grow.

The pay range for this role is around 6000 - 8000 euros + variable commission per month. The range is not entirely set in stone, though, as we assess each case individually.

We (humans, not an AI) review all applications and get back to all our candidates. That is a promise.
