About the Role

As a Lead Product Developer, you drive the development of new and existing products, ensuring they meet consumer needs and business objectives. You own your product area as the key expert, share your expertise across teams, and act as a trusted advisor to colleagues and projects within the Business Groups.
 

This role is based in Hamburg and reports to the Global Product Development Manager Acute Wound Care.

What you will do

  • Develop new and existing products as product expert in innovation projects and related activities such as value engineering and quality improvements

  • Contribute to projects at different levels, acting either as consultant or active team member

  • Translate consumer needs into product functions and derive design parameters and technical solutions

  • Evaluate and validate product solutions across key dimensions including consumer acceptance, functionality, cost, manufacturability, patent landscape and product safety

  • Define product and quality specifications with clear targets, methods and tolerances

  • Build and maintain deep expertise in relevant technical areas, including Essity and competitor products, patents, technologies, materials as well as market and industry trends

  • Share insights, updates and results within the team and across the organization

  • Identify patent opportunities for new product designs and features and drive lab method development where needed

  • Act as product design and construction expert across Essity’s specifications and assortments globally, serving as a trusted advisor to projects and colleagues across categories

  • Maintain up-to-date gap analyses comparing Essity and competitor products in terms of performance and cost

Who you are

  • Degree in engineering, natural sciences, or a comparable field

  • 5+ years of experience in product development or R&D in a medical device environment

  • Strong ability to translate consumer needs into technical product solutions

  • Solid understanding of product validation, specifications, regulatory and quality requirements, as well as manufacturing processes for medical devices

  • Proven track record of leading international R&D projects resulting in successful product launches

  • Analytical mindset with experience in benchmarking and identifying optimization potential

  • Experience working in cross-functional and international project teams

  • Clear and confident communicator, able to explain complex technical topics

  • Fluent in English and German for collaboration in an international environment
