Job Description

CAMRI provides advanced MRI scanning that can include additional medication (e.g. contrast, sedation or buscopan) and the scanning of patients who have an implanted device such as pacemakers. These scans require medical supervision (for a patient with a pacemaker with supported of a cardiac physiologist) after acquiring patient consent. A team of Supervising Doctor are employed on a casual basis which provides flexibility to meet personal and service needs.

Role responsibilities include:

  • Supervision of MRI scans that require contrast, medication or for patients who have an implanted cardiac device such as a pacemaker.
  • Obtaining consent for contrast or other drugs required.
  • Placing IV lines for patients undergoing contrast, although many CAMRI staff are trained and able to perform this task also.
  • Overseeing the administration of the contrast agent and care of the patient for the duration of the MRI scan appointment.
  • Advanced life support in case of emergency while awaiting help from the cardiac arrest team (from Auckland Hospital).
  • Medical assistance for the consultant cardiologist during stress perfusion.
  • Current New Zealand Medical Practicing Certificate
  • Three years post graduate training or more
  • Current professional indemnity insurance
  • Advance Life Support training (a refresher can be provided)

This role suits NZ qualified doctors who are undertaking research or further study at the University. Hours are self selected but availability needs to typically be around four hours per week.
