Technical Sales Manager
Job Summary
Manages the sales duties of the respective location.
Job Duties
Industry Knowledge: Understanding of electrical grid systems such as 3-phase power, circuit protection, power distribution, transmission and substation. Ability to read electrical schematics and specifications.
Product -Specific Expertise: Familiarity with heavy electrical/industrial instruments, distribution, transmission and substation overhead switches, switchgear, motor switch operators (MSOs), interrupter capabilities, switching coordination/fusing and utility automation.
Quote & Proposal Management: Ability to analyze Request for Purchases (RFPs) and Request for quotes (RFQs), interpret complex technical drawings and generate accurate bid forms. Complete all necessary documents fully and accurately
Adhere to 5S standards (e.g., maintain cleanliness of work area, etc.)
Follow all Safety, Environmental and Quality policies and procedures
Perform other duties as assigned
Experience and Education
Bachelors in engineering, computer science, or related fields
5 years sales engineer experience with a track record of delivering complex solutions
Competencies/ Skills
Communication: Ability to bridge the gap between engineering and business by translating complex technical features into benefits for end varied audiences. Capability to give technical presentations and/or train varied audiences on technical products and topics.
Relationship Building: Networking with consulting engineers, standards engineers, lineman, contractors, project managers, design engineers, purchasing account managers etc. to influence product specification and secure long-term client retention.
Negotiation & Closing: Proven capability to drive sales growth, manage a defined territory and support regional sales managers in closing complex commercial contracts.
Additional Requirements:
Travel: May require up to 50% regional or national travel to visit customers, trainings, factories or attend trade shows.
Software Literacy: Proficiency with CRM systems (Salesforce), Microsoft office, and design or estimating software.
