Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Lecturer in Early Years and Education to join the Early Years and Education department at Sandwell College offering opportunities for full-time and part-time roles.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Early Years professional or educator who is passionate about inspiring the next generation of childcare and education practitioners within the further education sector. You will play a key role in delivering engaging and high-quality teaching across Early Years programmes, supporting learners to develop the practical skills, knowledge and professional behaviours required for successful careers within the industry.

Working closely with the Head of Curriculum and wider curriculum team, you will contribute to the continued growth and development of the department, ensuring students receive an outstanding learning experience that prepares them for employment or further study.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment across Early Years and Education programmes. 
  • Support learners studying on Early Years Educator pathways and related qualifications. 
  • Act as a course tutor and provide effective pastoral and academic support to students. 
  • Develop engaging learning materials using Information Learning Technology (ILT) and multimedia resources. 
  • Participate in curriculum planning, development and quality improvement activities. 
  • Work collaboratively with course teams to ensure consistently high standards of teaching and learning. 
  • Attend departmental meetings, parents’ evenings, open events and interview evenings as required.


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • A degree and/or relevant professional qualification in Early Years, Childcare or a related subject. 
  • A teaching qualification. 
  • Experience working within the Early Years, Nursery or Primary Education sector. 
  • Experience delivering high-quality teaching and learning. 
  • Experience preparing engaging learning resources and assessment materials. 
  • Knowledge of Early Years vocational qualifications delivery. 
  • Strong organisational, communication and administrative skills. 
  • The ability to inspire, motivate and support learners from a range of backgrounds. 
  • Confidence using digital technologies and ILT within teaching practice. 
  • A commitment to safeguarding, equality and outstanding student support.

Teaching Qualifications & Salary Banding

To be eligible for our Qualified Lecturer salary banding (£31,837 - £48,160), you must hold one of the following teaching qualifications:

Accepted Qualifications:
  • DTTLS (Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
  • Certificate in Education
  • PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education)
  • ProfGCE (Professional Graduate Certificate in Education) 
  • DET (Diploma in Education and Training)
  • DiT (Diploma in Teaching) – if for a vocational subject
If you do not hold one of the above qualifications, you will fall into our Unqualified Lecturer salary banding (£26,661 - £29,998).

Not Accepted as Stand Alone Qualifications:
  • PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
  • CTLLS (Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
  • CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) 
  • SFHEA (Senior Fellowship)
  • Masters in Education
  • TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language)
