ISP Elementary PE Teacher Role Profile

Purpose of Role

The Elementary Physical Education Teacher provides engaging physical education instruction that develops students' physical, social, emotional, and cognitive skills through structured movement activities, games, sports, and fitness education. The teacher fosters a positive environment that encourages lifelong participation in physical activity and healthy living.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver standards-based physical education lessons for elementary students.
  • Teach fundamental motor skills, movement patterns, sports skills, and fitness concepts appropriate to students' developmental levels.
  • Promote teamwork, sportsmanship, respect, cooperation, and fair play.
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all students.
  • Assess student performance and monitor progress in physical fitness, skill development, and participation.
  • Adapt activities to meet the diverse needs and abilities of all learners, including students with disabilities.
  • Teach students about health, wellness, nutrition, and the importance of regular physical activity.
  • Maintain equipment, facilities, and safety procedures during all physical activities.
  • Enforce school policies and safety guidelines to minimize the risk of injury.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, administrators, and families to support students' overall development.
  • Organize and support school-wide physical activity events, field days, wellness initiatives, or extracurricular sports programs.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, assessment records, and other required documentation.
  • Participate in professional development and school meetings to enhance instructional practices.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of physical education curriculum and child development.
  • Ability to teach fundamental motor skills, movement patterns, and fitness concepts.
  • Excellent classroom and behavior management skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate and engage students in physical activity.
  • Knowledge of health, wellness, and injury prevention practices.
  • Ability to create a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to assess student performance and provide constructive feedback.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Education, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Experience teaching physical education to elementary-aged students (preferred).
  • Experience planning and implementing age-appropriate PE lessons and activities.
  • Experience promoting student health, fitness, and wellness.
  • Experience managing groups of students in indoor and outdoor settings.
