Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Gear Grinder to join our team on 1st shift, working in a high‑quality, precision manufacturing environment. As a Gear Grinder, you will play a critical role in our manufacturing operation by setting up, operating, and maintaining gear grinding equipment to exacting standards. If you thrive on complex setups, tight tolerances, and delivering exceptional quality, we want to hear from you.
Primary Responsibilities
Specializes in operating a Klingenberg Viper 500 Gear Grinder, Kapp ZE500-Gear Grinder, Gleason-P800G Profile Gear Grinder, used to manufacture master gears.
Planning and performing difficult grinding operations that require complicated setups and/or a high degree of accuracy.
Determine proper feeds, speeds, tooling, and operation sequence or select those prescribed in drawings, blueprints, or layouts, using a variety of precision metal removal equipment.
Maintain a workable supply of perishable tools required in the operation of machinery.
Comply with AS9100 documentation as required.
Secondary Responsibilities as Required
Assists with other machines in Manufacturing when needed.
Education and Experience
Requires extensive knowledge of machine shop practices usually acquired through extensive on the job training and experience.
Journeyman (machining) or 8 years equivalent.
Experience with holding very tight tolerances.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Awareness
High degree of mechanical aptitude, print reading skills, and GD & T.
Ability to work independently and to manage one’s time effectively.
Knowledge/experience with other machines (lathe, mill, CNC setup/programming, I.D./OD grind, jig grind) is not required but is beneficial.
Knowledge of QMS documented information such as AS9100, NADCAP and ISO 9001.
Knowledge of gear inspection methods.
Understanding of individual contribution to product conformity and product safety.
The importance of ethical behavior.
