Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: On-site in Mebane, NC
Base Salary Rate: $108,000 – $127,305 per year
Job type: Full-time position
About This Role
The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and continuous improvement of fire extinguisher products and related safety devices. This includes new product development, productivity improvements, sustainability initiatives, and research into emerging technologies. The Mechanical Design Engineer ensures compliance with agency requirements and supports cross-functional collaboration to deliver high-quality, cost-effective, and innovative solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Develop new products based on Product Management and Marketing/Sales requirements
Ensure compliance with customer, agency, and governmental standards
Define and execute design plans for NPD projects
Support product redesign and realignment initiatives to achieve cost reductions
Drive improvements in efficiency and profitability through engineering solutions
Provide technical support for operations, including product updates and issue resolution
Maintain and update product documentation as needed
Investigate and evaluate new technologies for fire extinguishers and related safety products
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to bring innovative solutions to market
Basic Qualifications
Associate’s degree in Mechanical Design, Drafting, CAD Technology, Industrial Design, or related field
5+ years’ experience in mechanical design using SolidWorks including 3D modeling and 2D drafting
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
Strong knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, 2D technical specifications, and relevant standards (ASTM, SAE, ISO)
Familiarity with product development processes and cross-functional collaboration.
Experience with SolidWorks automation tools such as API, macros, design tables, or configurations
Professional certifications such as Certified SOLIDWORKS Associate (CSWA), Certified SOLIDWORKS Professional (CSWP), or Certified SOLIDWORKS Expert (CSWE) are highly valued
Experience with PDM systems such as Windchill or SolidWorks PDM
Working knowledge of sheet metal, plastic, machined, and mechanical parts
Understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and design-for-manufacturability (DFM) principles
Exposure to Lean Design, Design for Six Sigma, or similar continuous improvement methodologies
Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks efficiently.
