Asphalt Plant Operator

Salary Range:$64,757.42 - $64,757.42


Works under the supervision of the Asphalt Plant Supervisor. Operates asphalt plant machinery to produce hot-mix asphalt to meet specifications and standards set by either the City or the Asphalt Institute. Operates the asphalt plant machinery either automatically by using a computer program or manually by moving controls on a panelboard, when necessary, in enclosed observation station to produce hot-mix asphalt to meet specifications and standards set by either the City or the Asphalt Institute. Observes gauges, dials, and operation of asphalt plant machinery to ensure conformance to production specifications. Follows preventative maintenance schedule prescribed by manufacturer, including checking belts, valves, and gauges. Makes repairs on machinery, including replacing parts and fittings as required. Communicates via radio dispatch and telephone with staff to facilitate asphalt production. Adjusts production schedule to meet work demands and /or staff shortages.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires ability to inspect asphalt plant machinery, which may involve walking, climbing, stooping etc. Requires ability to communicate with management, staff, public, and other governmental agencies.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Majority of work is performed in the enclosed observation station area of the asphalt plant machinery. Involves exposure to various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures when performing preventative maintenance and repairs outside on the asphalt plant machinery. May be exposed to fumes, odors, noise, and dust.

 

High school graduate and three (3) years experience in an automated asphalt plant operation or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions.
