Job Description

Join us to Make an Impact

Innovation is in our DNA. We invented supercontinuum lasers and photonic crystal fibers and we constantly reimagine how our products can be used and improved. Our customers use our products in medical and life science research, quantum computing and space exploration.

We seek curious, creative and collaborative people to work in our cutting-edge company. Can you see yourself working in teams and providing solutions for innovators?

If you wish to apply, please contact us with your CV / Résumé. If you have a cover letter, please save this in one document with your CV / Résumé as you are only able to upload one document.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Are you driven by working with cutting-edge photonics technology that powers the future of Quantum Technologies? Do you want to be at the forefront of shaping the next generation of Laser Systems in quantum computers, sensors and communication systems? Do you find complex problems as exciting challenges and thrive on transforming them into manufacturable, scalable solutions? Are you motivated to push the boundaries of today’s technology by building advanced laser systems that redefine innovation?

Then this job as Optical Engineer for Quantum Laser Systems at NKT Photonics may be the right job for you!

Being in the middle of the second quantum revolution, this is a great time to join us. Our continued success has set us on an exciting growth path — not just in Denmark, but across our global organization. As a part of HAMAMATSU Photonics, NKT Photonics is an inspiring place to work, where we encourage both personal and career development.

The Role
As a member of our Quantum Systems engineering team, you will lead the development, assembly, and testing of custom laser system products and prototypes based on ultra-stable fiber lasers. You interface with sales and support teams to provide updates on product developments and technical advice on customer enquiries as well as assisting with after sales support and repairs/upgrades.

We are passionate about Quantum Technology!
If you are enthusiastic about quantum technologies and computing too, in this position you will:

  • Capture requirements from, and build deep understanding of customer applications in quantum computing and sensing. Further you will translate this understanding into complex and highly specialized fiber laser systems, including:

  • Light generation (seed lasers, amplifiers, frequency stabilization)

  • Light processing (frequency conversion, electro-optical and acousto-optical modulation, fiber Bragg gratings and more)

  • Light delivery (via our proprietary Photonics Crystal Fiber platform)

  • Assure manufacturability and production scalability of laser systems aligned with ambitious customer roadmaps

  • Support and inspire the development of complex electronics control systems, including analog and digital communication backbones

  • Invent and inspire new technology development within fiber-based optics, contributing to IP generation

  • Expertise in light processing and modulation using electro-optical and acousto-optical technologies (ideally on fiber-based platforms)

  • Hands-on lab expertise in free-space and fiber optics

  • Proven ability to manage and organize multiple concurrent engineering projects and work packages (ideally in the role of project manager)

  • Experience in programming (ideally in Python)
