Job Description

Why Markham

We’re a full-service creative event and production agency working with Fortune 500 companies, associations, and nonprofits around the world.
We move fast. We think big. We care deeply about the work—and we build teams of people who want to do the same.

We’re looking for a Manager, Events in the DMV area who knows how to make that happen—someone who can lead, build, problem-solve, and deliver at a high level without losing the magic.

What You'll Own

You'll be a key member of the Operations team, helping keep projects moving, events organized, and the office running smoothly.

A few examples:

  • Coordinating travel for staff, speakers, and guests

  • Supporting event logistics and onsite execution

  • Managing shipping, receiving, and event materials

  • Keeping inventory organized and accurate

  • Tracking project timelines and deliverables

  • Supporting vendor communication and invoice processing

  • Maintaining data and reporting in Quickbase

  • Helping manage internship onboarding and administration

  • Keeping our DC office organized, stocked, and running efficiently

You'll Thrive Here If...

  • You are naturally organized and detail-oriented

  • You don't wait to be asked—you see something that needs to be done and do it

  • You enjoy juggling multiple priorities at once

  • You love checklists, systems, and finding better ways to work

  • You can shift gears quickly when priorities change

  • You're comfortable working independently and figuring things out

  • You're dependable, responsive, and follow through on commitments

  • You enjoy being the person people can count on

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of professional work experience

  • Experience in operations, administration, event support, hospitality, logistics, or a related field

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Strong communication skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace

Bonus Points For

  • Event planning or event logistics experience

  • Quickbase experience

  • Project management platform experience

  • Slack and collaboration tool experience

  • Agency, nonprofit, hospitality, or event industry experience

Important Details

  • Part-time position (25-30 hours per week)

  • Typically 4-5 days per week

  • Based in our Washington, DC office (Dupont Circle)

  • Occasional evening or weekend support may be required around events

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and support event setup as needed

One Final Thing

We're less concerned about finding someone who checks every box and more interested in finding someone who is resourceful, organized, dependable, and eager to learn.

If you're the type of person who enjoys making things run smoothly and takes pride in being the person behind the scenes who keeps everything on track, we'd love to hear from you.

I particularly like the line: "This is not a role for someone who waits for instructions." It immediately signals initiative and tends to attract the exact personality type you're looking for.

Markham is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. If you believe you can handle the role and are enthusiastic about this opportunity but are uncertain whether you fulfill all the requirements, don't hesitate to submit your application. We look forward to hearing from you!
