Job Description

Job Purpose

The Production Team Leader is accountable for the day-to-day execution, coordination, and performance of production, assembly, and adaptation activities within the assigned site. The role ensures that products are assembled safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards, meeting agreed production plans, delivery targets, and customer requirements. The role provides first-line operational leadership to Assembly and Adaptation Technicians, translating production plans into daily execution while maintaining discipline in safety, quality, housekeeping, and productivity.

 

Job Context

The role ensures that products are assembled safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards, meeting agreed production plans, delivery targets, and customer requirements.

The role provides first-line operational leadership to Assembly and Adaptation Technicians, translating production plans into daily execution while maintaining discipline in safety, quality, housekeeping, and productivity.

Financial Dimensions

  • Direct influence on productivity, rework, scrap, and on-time delivery through effective production execution.
  • Payment & Other Authorisations as per approved Delegation of Authority.

 

Key Accountabilities

Production Planning & Execution

  • Execute daily and weekly production plans in accordance with approved schedules and priorities.
  • Allocate work to Assembly and Adaptation Technicians based on skills, capacity, and production requirements.
  • Monitor production performance against output, quality, efficiency, and delivery targets.
  • Identify, manage, and escalate production constraints, delays, or resource shortages to the Operations Manager.
  • Track and follow up on buy-out and project-specific orders to ensure alignment with planned dispatch dates.
  • Where required to meet demand or address short-term capacity constraints, personally perform production, assembly, or adaptation tasks while maintaining leadership and accountability for overall performance.

People & Shopfloor Leadership

  • Provide clear, consistent, and effective first-line supervision to Assembly and Adaptation Technicians.
  • Ensure work instructions, drawings, specifications, and standards are available, understood, and followed.
  • Coach and support team members to develop skills, capability, and adherence to standard work.
  • Promote a positive, disciplined, and performance-focused shopfloor culture.

Quality, Safety & Housekeeping

  • Ensure production activities comply with QHSE requirements, procedures, and safe systems of work.
  • Promote high standards of housekeeping and 6S discipline on the shopfloor.
  • Identify and report quality defects, non-conformances, and safety hazards.
  • Support investigations and corrective actions in collaboration with Quality & HSE.

Equipment, Tools & Materials

  • Ensure tools, fixtures, and equipment are available, fit for purpose, and used correctly.
  • Coordinate with Technical Purchasing and Warehousing to ensure material availability.
  • Support basic equipment care, calibration awareness, and escalation of maintenance issues.

Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain accurate production records, outputs, and efficiency metrics.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to improve productivity, quality, and safety.

 

 

 

Qualifications, Experience & Skills

Minimum Qualifications and Knowledge

  • National Diploma or Trade Qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Sound understanding of electrical assembly and low- to medium-volume production environments.

Minimum Experience

  • 5–8 years’ experience in electrical assembly, production, or manufacturing roles.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or coordinating shopfloor teams.

Job Specific Skills

  • Production planning and execution discipline.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Strong people coordination and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities:
1) Personal Capability Building: Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching. Develop and maintain an understanding of relevant technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.
2) Operational Compliance: Develop knowledge and understanding of the organization's policies and procedures and of relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct to ensure own work adheres to those standards. Obtain authorization from a supervisor or manager for any exceptions from mandatory procedure.
3) Administration: Produce, update, and provide best practice support on a wide range of Microsoft documents, databases, and other departmental systems.
4) Product/Service Information: Provide advanced product/service information and respond to basic customer questions about the product/service.
5) Business Meetings/Events Arrangement: Schedule appointments, make arrangements for meetings and conferences, and organize travel plans, following instructions to ensure more senior colleagues or a senior executive make the best use of their time.
6) Receiving Visitors: Receive visitors and respond accurately and promptly to a broad range of questions and issues raised.
7) Document Preparation: Organize and prepare complex documents using a variety of applications for technology devices, such as standard office software. Also responsible for gathering and summarizing data for special reports.
8) Sales Opportunities Creation: Identify potential customers by obtaining information, referrals, and recommendations from existing customers and other contacts and/or through participation in trade shows and conferences.


Educational Requirements: Post-Secondary Non-Tertiary Education

General Experience Requirement: Experienced practitioner able to work unsupervised (13 months to 3 years)

Managerial Experience Requirement: Very limited (0 to 3 months)
