Job Description

At Avalon Holographics, we’re building the world’s most advanced holographic display systems, enabling real-time 3D visualization used in industries such as defense, healthcare, and entertainment, without the use of headsets or glasses!

Developing display technology this advanced requires curiosity, precision experimentation, and the ability to solve complex engineering and measurement challenges. Our students play an important role in supporting this work, contributing directly to hands-on research, testing, and development projects across the organization.

At Avalon, students are a vital part of our team and an important part of our long-term talent pipeline. We’re proud to provide meaningful opportunities that support both your learning and your career growth.

As an Engineering Co-op Student (Experimental Measurements & Display Development), you’ll contribute to hands-on projects involving electrical measurements, device characterization, custom test setup development, and data analysis. You’ll work closely with engineers and researchers in our Edmonton office to support the development and evaluation of next-generation display technologies.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and test measurement techniques for semiconductor devices, including electrical probe methods and stability testing for thin-film transistors (TFTs)

  • Work hands-on in the lab setting up experiments and configuring measurement equipment

  • Analyze data using Python, including creating scripts for plotting, visualization, and automation

  • Collaborate with engineers and researchers to better understand device physics and translate concepts into practical testing procedures

  • Research background theory and measurement methods to support experimental design and troubleshooting

  • Assist with equipment selection, test planning, and adapting existing experimental setups

  • Document experimental procedures, technical findings, and data analysis results

  • Support ongoing development and optimization of advanced display technologies

What We’re Looking For

  • Currently enrolled in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Mathematics, or a related co-op post-secondary degree program

  • Strong interest in semiconductor devices, experimental measurements, applied physics, or display technology

  • Experience with or interest in Python for data analysis, visualization, or automation

  • Comfortable working in a lab environment using probes, measurement instruments, and experimental setups

  • Naturally curious and motivated to research, explore, and figure things out independently

  • Comfortable taking ownership of projects and running with ideas from concept through execution

  • Confident working with direction but without requiring constant step-by-step instruction

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail in both design and troubleshooting

  • Ability to document technical workflows and communicate findings clearly

  • Collaborative mindset with a willingness to take initiative

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with parametric analyzers or laboratory test equipment (e.g., Keithley, Agilent, or similar)

  • Familiarity with semiconductor concepts such as diodes, transistors, Hall effect, or device characterization

  • Prior experience with lab automation, experimental measurements, or hands-on electronics work

  • Interest in display technology, thin films, semiconductor devices, or device physics

Why Join Avalon?

Get meaningful experience supporting groundbreaking technology that pushes beyond what’s been done before, with mentorship, collaboration, and opportunities to take ownership of your work. Whether you’re interested in semiconductor devices, instrumentation, experimental physics, or advanced display systems, this role offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience contributing to real R&D projects in a collaborative engineering environment.

If you're excited about experimental work, building test systems, analyzing data, and helping develop next-generation display technology, apply today with your resume and transcripts! Please note that your application won’t be considered complete without both documents.
