Description of Work

You must apply by 11:59 PM prior to the posted closing date.This posting is for a Transportation Supervisor I in the Graham County Maintenance Unit. Work is related to maintenance and repair of State-maintained roads within Graham County and supervision of subordinates in the maintenance and construction of highways. Applicants must be able to maintain a close team environment or work independently, as needed.
Position will supervise roadway maintenance crew working in and around heavy traffic, heavy equipment and with power tools. Responsibilities include supervision of roadway maintenance crew involved in drainage maintenance, patching, shoulder repair, paved and unpaved roadway maintenance, vegetation management, snow and ice removal, and emergency response to roadway maintenance needs.
The selected applicant must be able to install and maintain work zone control plans. Complete daily work reports and conduct daily tailgate meetings. Position is required to work nights and weekends as needed for emergencies and planned operations in all types of weather conditions and on uneven surfaces and slopes.
The employee must safely be able to lift and carry 50 lbs. Safety toe shoes required. Employees must be able to legal operate CDL equipment with both manual or automatic transmissions. Either possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire. Pre-employment drug testing is required. Release forms ALCDRG-01 and ALCDRG-06 must be signed allowing NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substances and alcohol.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC14 $52,592 - $92,036
Management prefers applicants with the following:
- Experience in road maintenance and repair, as well as maintenance equipment operation
- Experience in record keeping such as tracking employees and equipment time and recording quantities of material used
- Experience in snow and ice removal
- Experience in Work Zone Safety
- Experience in planning work and supervising the daily activities of a work crew
Minimum Education and Experience
