Perioperative Education Specialist
Job Description
General Summary
This educator role is vested with accountability for the education of all levels of Perioperative Services. This position is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation all educational activities and programs.

Report to Director of Perioperative Nursing
Work Experience
Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited nursing education program approved by the Board of Nursing or found by the Board to be substantially equivalent to the programs in Maryland.
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required. Master’s degree preferred.
- At least 3 years clinical nursing experience required with Operating Room nursing experience preferred. Proven adult, demonstrated, educational teaching experience is also preferred.
- Current registration with the Maryland Board of Nursing is required.
- AORN Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) is required.
Working Conditions
Works inside, in a clean well-lighted environment. May be exposed to frequent interruptions and multiple crisis situations. Potential for regular exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials, such as chemicals and cleaning agents, requiring the observation of Standard (Universal) Precautions and safe handling practices. This position has been classified as medium exposure risk and requires the completion of an annual respirator mask fitting.
Physical Requirements
Work is heavy. Requires close attention to many details. Requires considerable standing, sitting, bending and walking 3-5 hours/shift. Occasional heavy lifting (up to and in excess of 100 lbs.), carrying, pushing and pulling 0-2 hours/day, in accordance with Safe Patient Lifting policy. Reaching for, fingering, grasping and handling equipment and supplies 0-3 hours/day. Talking and hearing to converse with staff and physicians 0-3 hours/day. Hearing/listening to differentiate sounds 0-3 hours/day. Near visual acuity to read charts, and documents 0-3 hours/day.

Compensation:
- Pay Range: $42.64 - $64.00
- Other Compensation (if applicable): May be eligible for shift differential.
