Why does this job exist and why is it critical?
We are seeking a highly skilled and versatile AI & Digital Platform Engineer to join our dynamic technology team. In this role, you will be at the forefront of developing cutting-edge agentic AI solutions, engineering robust full-stack microservices and ensuring secure application deployments across our digital platforms. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver with deep expertise in applied machine learning, modern web development, Linux environments and secure architecture, coupled with a strong willingness to engage in cloud infrastructure and project management.
What are you accountable for?
Architect and deploy sophisticated agentic AI solutions using Google BigQuery, Agent Development Kits and modern LLM frameworks. Build and manage vector databases and knowledge graphs to power context-aware AI agents.
Develop and implement machine learning models for anomaly detection and predictive analytics. Leverage managed cloud AI services (e.g., AWS/GCP APIs) and in-database tools like BigQuery ML to deliver practical, scalable insights without the need for heavy MLOps infrastructure.
Lead the development of highly responsive user interfaces using React—including the integration of location-based services and geospatial data. Engineer robust, high-performance back-end microservices using Java (Spring Boot). Design and implement secure RESTful APIs or GraphQL for seamless system integration.
Architect and optimise data storage solutions using a combination of relational, cloud-native and graph databases. Manage and scale platforms including Oracle, MySQL, Google BigQuery and graph database technologies (e.g., Neo4j, Amazon Neptune) to support complex data relationships and knowledge graphs.
Configure and maintain Linux environments. Collaborate with IT security teams by understanding implemented firewall rules and defining application firewall requirements. Manage application traffic securely with a strong understanding of load balancers and proxy servers.
Champion high standards of code quality and version control using GitHub, enforcing secure coding practices and participating in peer code reviews.
Work closely with stakeholders to understand business requirements and assist in provisioning cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) to host applications securely.
What do you need to have for this role?
Strong proficiency in Python. Hands-on experience with leading enterprise AI ecosystems, specifically Google Gemini AI and AWS AI/ML platforms (e.g., Amazon Bedrock). Experience with LLM frameworks (e.g., LangChain, LlamaIndex), building vector databases/knowledge graphs and practical experience integrating managed ML services or using in-database ML (e.g., BigQuery ML).
Deep expertise in full-stack development using Java (Spring Boot preferred) and React. Proven experience in building applications and integrating location-based services using the Google Maps Platform (e.g., Maps JavaScript API, Geocoding, Routing). Strong understanding of microservices architecture and API design.
Extensive experience with SQL, NoSQL and graph databases. Proficiency with Oracle, MySQL, Google BigQuery and familiarity with graph technologies (e.g., Neo4j).
Strong proficiency in Linux administration. Solid understanding of corporate firewall requirements, load balancing architectures, proxy servers and general network security protocols.
Solid understanding of application security (e.g., OWASP Top 10) and experience implementing identity and access management protocols such as OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect and JWT.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with general cloud infrastructure on AWS, GCP, or Azure. Familiarity with containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes), Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform) and building CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions).
Ability to elicit business requirements, define project scopes and apply Agile/Scrum methodologies to drive technical initiatives.
Solid understanding of telecommunication networks, including mobile (4G/5G) and fibre optic technologies.
A strong grasp of core networking principles (TCP/IP, routing, switching, DNS) and cloud networking architectures.
Familiarity with telecommunications or enterprise OSS, including network management, fault monitoring, performance management and service provisioning.
Personal Attributes:
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication skills, capable of translating complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
A collaborative team player who fully embraces Agile Ways of Working (WoW) to deliver iterative, high-quality results.
A continuous learner who stays updated with the latest advancements in AI, software engineering and infrastructure security.
