Job Description
MCW is currently seeking a Construction Administrator to join our Toronto office. This position plays a key role in supporting the construction phase of projects by acting as a key liaison between internal stakeholders, developers, clients, architects, general contractors, sub-trades, and suppliers. The successful candidate will attend job site meetings, review construction progress, and help ensure the quality of materials and workmanship meet or exceed the standards identified in project specifications and construction drawings.
This role requires construction administration experience and an understanding of either mechanical or electrical building systems. Knowledge of both disciplines is a strong asset; however, candidates with solid experience in one discipline are encouraged to apply. This posting is for an existing vacancy within MCW.
Location: Toronto, ON
Salary Range: $80,000 - $100,000 (Salary is commensurate with the relevant experience, qualifications, skills, and alignment with the role requirements).
Responsibilities: The Responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following:
Attend site meetings and prepare clear, timely field review reports, meeting notes, and follow-up items as required
Serve as main point of contact for the builder for project-related questions/requests related to construction administration and building systems coordination
Understand project specifications, construction drawings, contract documents, and objectives
Conduct regular field reviews to observe construction progress and assess general conformance with contract documents
Proactively identify potential issues, coordination conflicts, deficiencies, and risks, and escalate items to the appropriate project team members
Report on milestone dates and deliverables
Respond to field issues and questions with engineering and other resources as required
Investigate claims promptly and resolve them fairly in consultation with the Project Manager and project team
Review and provide input on contemplated changes, change notices, change orders, pricing reviews, and related construction documentation
Support and engage in a collaborative work environment
Liaise with Architect, Client, Contractor, Owner, Specialty Consultants, Project Manager, Job Captain and Project Engineer
Complete time critical reports including Request for Information, Contemplated Revisions, Change Orders, Field Review, Pricing Review, Progress Claim Review
Issue and sign off on Site Deficiency Reports, verify and accept As Built Drawings and Operational and Maintenance Manuals and ensure all required information has been received prior to issuance of Closing Letters
Support project closeout activities
Provide customer service levels that meet or exceed customers' expectations
Actively work on multiple projects simultaneously
Overtime as required
Education & Experience:
Educational or trade background in mechanical or electrical design, construction, building systems, or a related technical discipline
Intermediate-level experience in a similar role, preferably within building consulting engineering, construction administration, site review, or mechanical/electrical contracting
Design background in building technology is an asset
Experience in building General Reviews
Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, power distribution, lighting, controls, and related systems
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Proven ability to meet deadlines/successful completion of deliverables
Ability to communicate and work well with other departments
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Ability to work under pressure
Team and client-focused
Self-motivated, hardworking, flexible
Technical Abilities:
Candidates must have a good working knowledge of current construction practices, including working drawing production and construction inspections, as well as specifications, contracts and consultant agreements.
Knowledge of building systems (HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Air Handling, Water, Mechanical & Fire Systems)
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Microsoft Outlook
AutoCAD and REVIT drawing review experience is considered an asset
Experience reviewing construction drawings, specifications, shop drawings, RFIs, change documentation, progress claims, deficiency lists and as-built drawings
Familiarity with construction administration software, document control platforms, or project management tools is considered an asset
Requirement:
Must have a vehicle and valid driver’s license for the province of Ontario
